Maintenance Carpenter
Description
Job Description:Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Carpenter is accountable for performing carpentry and maintenance work safely and effectively to ensure that all Yellowknife Housing Authority (YHA) buildings and properties possess an excellent state of repair. The incumbent provides routine carpentry, renovation, and repair work by following orders, plans, and specifications by: * Residential building and unit maintenance * Repairing or replacing interior and exterior building systems. * Repairing or replacing doors, windows, cupboards, and other components and fixtures. * Repairing or installing flooring * Installing and repairing bathroom finishes * Be part of an afterhours emergency repair on call system. * Completing minor repairs to interior and exterior, including painting, patching, and dry walling. * Repairing cabinets, shelving and other building components. * Constructing minor capital projects such as sheds, porches, stairs and landings. * Cleaning workshop machinery and servicing as required. * Advising and working with other tradespeople as required. * Minor electrical and plumbing repairs. Inspect building structures and components to ensure the building is in satisfactory condition by: * Conducting regular preventative maintenance inspection of all structural components, including roof, walls, floors, windows, doors, finish hardware and building interiors and exteriors. * Diagnosing faults and identifying repairs required. * Completing inspection reports. Complete records and provide administrative assistance and maintenance controls by: * Identifying supplies required and compiling materials list. * Completing work orders for all work assignments. * Accounting for 7.5 hours each day plus any overtime. * Assisting with inventory and stock control as required. * Reporting vehicle maintenance requirements to the manager and ensuring the vehicles are maintained daily and in clean and good operating condition. * Delivering supplies, mail and notices to tenants. * Identifying hazardous working conditions. Perform other related duties as required, including: * Conducting general site maintenance, including snow removal and garbage cleaning and removal. * Supervising and training apprentices and casual staff. * Assisting other tradespeople in emergencies. * Assisting district technical staff from time to time.
