The Career Foundation is currently seeking a Shop Carpenters on behalf of one of our employer partners.
Shop Carpenters are the frontline of our business and are responsible for constructing the prefabricated walls, floors, and roofs made of wood, wood substitutes, and other materials integral to creating our unique green, sustainable homes. The majority of our work is completed at our shop. From time to time, we may attend a site install of one of our prefab projects. It's important that candidates know we do not site build our homes, so your time with us would mostly be spent at our shop.

- Salary: $18.00-$25.00 per hour

Responsibilities:
- Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment.
- Study specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required.
- Measure and mark cutting lines on materials, using a ruler, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge.
- Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws.
- Install structures or fixtures, such as windows, frames, floorings, trim, or hardware, using carpenters' hand or power tools.
- Verify trueness of structure, using plumb bob and level.
- Maintain records, document actions, and present written progress reports.
- Erect scaffolding or ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
- Anchor and brace forms and other structures in place, using nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, planks, wedges, and timbers.
- Assemble and fasten materials to make frameworks or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue.
- Remove damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace, using hand tools.
- Examine structural timbers and supports to detect decay, and replace timbers as required, using hand tools, nuts, and bolts.
- One to four years of work experience
- A secondary school diploma or GED
- A diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution in carpentry, woodworking, or construction and/or a completed apprenticeship would be considered an asset
