Is Your Child Struggling to Read? There Is Hope.
Description
Is your child finding reading difficult? Are they becoming frustrated, losing confidence, or falling behind despite their best efforts?
Every child learns differently. Sometimes they simply need a teaching approach that matches the way they learn.
I specialise in helping children and young adults who face challenges with reading, including dyslexia, learning differences, processing difficulties, and developmental delays.
My lessons are personalised to each student's needs and learning style. Rather than rushing through material, I work at a pace that allows students to build understanding, confidence, and lasting skills.
Success Stories
Dyslexia and Reading Challenges
One of my students came to me at age 7 with significant reading difficulties. Progress was slow, and very little seemed to stick. Recognising that he learned differently, I worked closely with his parents and suggested introducing sensory-based learning materials to support his learning.
We started with short, manageable lessons designed to reduce stress and build confidence. Over time, his focus improved, his confidence grew, and his reading skills steadily developed.
I have been working with him for approximately three years. Although he still faces challenges and learns at his own pace, he is now reading, understanding what he reads, asking thoughtful questions, and successfully completing dictation exercises. Recently, he proudly showed me a school test on which he earned 10 out of 10 and received a gold star.
Just two weeks ago, he received a formal diagnosis of dyslexia, which helped explain many of the challenges he has faced throughout his learning journey.
Perhaps my favourite part of his progress is that he now asks why his lessons are so short. Learning has become something he enjoys, and he approaches new challenges with confidence and curiosity.
Neurological Challenges and Learning to Read
I have also had the privilege of working with an 18-year-old student with neurological challenges who was learning to read. Through patient, structured instruction, she has learned reading rules, recognises sight words, and can now read books that I specifically wrote to follow a carefully sequenced progression of reading skills. These books introduce letter combinations, sounds, and reading patterns in a systematic way, helping her build understanding and make meaningful connections between what she has learned and what she encounters in print.
Watching her develop skills that many people take for granted has been incredibly rewarding. Every new word, sentence, and book she reads represents a significant achievement and a step towards greater independence.
