Looking for a hamster from an ethical source as opposed to backyard "breeders" and pet stores? Check out Lavender Meadows Hamstery - we are an ethical hamstery that breeds hamsters with the goals of improving the species of Syrian hamster in mind! These hamsters are incredibly friendly and tame as they're handled since 14 days old. We have been breeding hamsters since 2020 and have adopted out 200+ healthy and tame hamsters.

Our hamsters have been around for 8-10 generations (we have the pedigrees) and many of our hamsters have been imported from reputable breeders in the US, Germany, and Netherlands. Our hamsters are known for their kind temperaments and proper physical conformations. Adult hamsters in the hamstery live in DIY IKEA enclosures with tons of enrichment options. We are very fortunate to have adopters all over BC and Canada adopt from us, including those in Kelowna, Victoria, Mission, Whistler and Fraser Valley! Join the waitlist in advance to be able to adopt by the time you want. There are no immediate adoptions. We are proud to be the only ethical breeder of Syrian hamsters in the Lower Mainland.

Adoption information:
To join the waitlist, fill out the adoption application (link below). There is $15 non refundable deposit that must be paid to hold your spot on the waitlist. When the pups are ready for adoption, you will be either matched with a pup or be able to choose between a few. Pups are matched based on personalities and what you are looking for. All pups are usually well-socialized and great with handling. The total adoption fee is $80, $15 deposit and the $65 remaining is to be paid at the time of adoption. However, if our supplies are purchased, the adoption fee will be discounted significantly.

Our goal is to produce the best quality Syrian hamsters that have a friendly, gentle, and natural kind temperament along with an improving lifespan that is above average. Since these hamsters come from a socialized environment, they go home being used to their new environment and ready to be handled and bonded with. Our hamsters are also an ethical alternative to hamsters from rodent mills sold in pet shops (think puppy mills).

While many sellers claim to be an "experienced breeder" to find a true ethical breeder, you should ask them about:
- The age the hamsters are rehoming at (most "breeders" rehome at 3-4 weeks which is WAY too early. this results in skittish hamsters)
- What they know about hamster genetics in depth. They should be able to give you an idea of how these genetics work and the genetics behind color combinations
- Diseases and illnesses in their hamster lines
- Pedigrees of the hamster lines including grandparents and great-great grandparents
- Sample pedigrees of the hamsters for proof of lineage
