Winter Wilderness Experience Northern Ontario
Description
Winter Get Away
Now accepting bookings for weekend guided adventures at Dokis First Nation. Stay in a log cabin and be guided by Bush Craft expert Norm Dokis. Bring your own skis or snowshoes or just walk on trails and learn about the forest, fishing, animals, and nature. Described as life changing by many of our clients, you will stay in a log cabin built by Norm and enjoy the fireplace and cottage amenities. Clients are asked to only bring their own food, sleeping bags, pillows, and reusable water bottles/other drinks as water is supplied. Cabins are heated with wood or propane and have cooking amenities.
Your day will consist of a forest tour with outdoor lunch by campfire and storytelling at our destination ceremonial lodge deep in the forest.
Norm’s stories are indigenous world view, and you will learn about history, ecology, winter survival, medicines, and foods of the forest.
These remote tourism adventures are based on Norm’s experience as a youth growing up on the trap line in a nomadic lifestyle, travelling from one cabin to the next and there is no running water just outside toilets.
These are hike into cabins, some are a 20-minute hike, and some are 50-minute hikes and there will be an ATV to bring in your gear.
