1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 10th Anniversary
Description
1979 Pontiac Trans Am 10th Anniversary Edition; documented, numbers matching, original engine, 1 family owned for 40 years. This is a project we've wanted to restore for a long time but due to time constraints we've decided to let it go to somebody who can give it a good home.
History:
This car has been in our family for 40 years; since 1979 when it was purchased off the lot just outside Montreal, QC. The car was used as a secondary vehicle for driving for fun between 1979 and 1982 until kids came along and the car was driven less and less. This vehicle was never winter driven or abused on the track, during those years.
In 1993 while competing with another car in various ISCA car show classes it was decided to disassemble the Trans Am and repaint it preparing for competition. The work completed on the car included removing the chassis undercoating, seals and gaskets and basically everything needed for re-paint. The car was painted with a Gold Candy Apple Base with Candy Apple Red Top Coat; Layers and Striping of the Prisms and Shapes were painted with Candy Apple Flip Flop and added Air Brushing on the Hood and Trunk of Castle Views and the Wizard added to the new name "The Wizard". As for body work the body is extremely straight and the only physical modification was the front fender fairings have been moulded onto the body to give it a cleaner more streamlined look; with that exception the body is otherwise original. Since 1993 the car had not been re-assembled and has only moved around locations for storage in a dry heated garage. Although life moves very fast over the years and other projects and priorities take precedent we do not have time to give this Trans Am what it needs to be back on the road where it belongs.
The Bad:
As described in my history of the vehicle the majority of the work that needs to be done is assembly; because most exterior pieces have been removed for painting they need to be placed back on. The Trans Am runs; starts perfectly and drives; I would caution the owner that the wheels currently on it have the wrong off-set but the original 10th Anniversary Wheels will be included as well so that's not a big deal. Based on my vast knowledge of cars this car needs a full tune up including fluid changes, plugs, wires, ect, the back seat (see picture) has a small spot of color peeling which can be touched up; for restoration purposes Year One does have a replacement to fix it, or you could find another seat for sale on eBay. The heater core is also leaking and will need to be repaired; the brakes are covered in paint and will need to be turned or swapped out as well. Other than that there are no other mechanical issues stand out. As for the body it is in excellent shape but the overall paintjob never received its final wet/sanding and compounding so the shine to the car is minimal to what it should be; there are also scratches and a few chips on the front bumper from being in storage. In my opinion it can go two ways depending on what you want to do with the car should you choose to restore the paint; or have it repainted factory silver.
The Good:
This Trans Am has 3,675 miles on the dash with 1 owner. I have all the original documentation, sales sheet. In addition to the car which can be customized or restored I am including every single part I have for the vehicle including many AC Delco parts purchased at GM such as new center caps for the OEM wheels, Power Antenna, ect. because this car has been in the family for 40 years I have everything you should need to re-assemble the vehicle even if they are not pictured (Original Formula 10th Anniversary Wheels, Door Panels, Trim Mouldings, Mirrors, Side Markers, Grille, Documentation, Transport cases for the T-Tops, even the original Jack & spare tire. ect..) which will all be included with the sale of the car.
Should this vehicle require transport or delivery I will work with the buyer to ensure a smooth transaction. If you have any questions or need any additional photos I would be more than happy to provide them.
