Dry cabin on Alaska Hwy between Whitehorse & Haines Junction
Description
We have a dry cabin for rent in Mendenhall, YT, which is about the halfway point between Whitehorse and Haines Junction on the Alaska Highway.
A dry cabin means that there is no running water in the building, only an outhouse. We service it. It is a modern building, not a shack. It's well-insulated and has a permitted and regularly maintained, legal, modern, wood-burning stove. The cabin has electricity, so if you want to plug in heaters and other electric appliances, you can. There is a stove and a fridge. Water is available for free at the community tap.
The utilities are not free; there is a meter system in place to monitor and assign consumption. Solar panels are installed to reduce the electric bill for the property.
The cabin shares 10 acres with two other single-family homes. You have to manage your own garbage and recycling.
The great thing about this place is that it's out of town, quiet, and dark. There is ample room for you to garden, have a woodpile, and park your stuff. It's also pet-friendly! You can bring your hairy, shedding, slobbering dog and your king-of-the-world cat. However, please note that there isn't a setup for a dog team, and horses, cows, etc., cannot live here as there is no barn.
This cabin is suitable for a person or couple who are looking for a semi off-grid lifestyle, but with some of the amenities of grid-connected living.
We, as reasonable, mature, responsible property owners, are looking for the same qualities in people who want to dwell in this home. We take care of problems quickly and fix things when they break down. We need you to inform us when issues arise, so small problems can remain small.
Send me a message if you are interested in talking about this lifestyle. Thanks for your interest.
