2004 Four Winns 298 Vista
Description
2004 Four Winns 298 Vista
I have written a detailed description. Any other questions, please ask.
Compare it to the Vista 278 and Vista 288, this is a completely different boat. We looked at them.
The wider beam ion the 298 is really apparent throughout the cockpit and cabin and it feels like a much bigger boat.
There are also walk-around side decks on the Vista 298. Really great for cleaning the boat, and when docking and rafting.
31.5’ Length Overall
10.5’ Beam
11,500 lbs weight with gear and some fuel
Power: 60A shore power (2 x 30A)
We do not have a trailer.
This boat has always been kept in a seasonal slip.
BUT the boat can be trailered around. Weight with boat and a tri-axle trailer combined is about 14,000lbs. Which is definitely 3/4 ton (or 1 ton) truck territory, and of course the road-use permits, due to the 10.5’ beam.
The original Mercruiser driveline has never been touched.
Only annual maintenance. Starts and Runs flawlessly
All fluids & oils changed every season.
Professional maintenance every spring and fall.
Indoor storage.
We have been boating for 30 yrs. Maintenance is a priority.
Twin 5.0 MPI Mercruiser V8 engines (260hp ea)
Mated to Bravo Three Outdrives with Stainless props.
Suprisingly decent fuel economy.
Well maintained and ready to go.
Low hours - both motors have 597 hours.
Boat does a nice 26mi/hr cruise at 3,000 RPM.
Sound level is decent for talking and music.
Or, 30mi/hr cruise at 3,300 RPM.
Wide open is 44mi/hr at 4,800 RPM.
Trim Tabs keep the load nicely balanced.
This is a gently used boat, by seasoned boaters. No dock rash. No damage.
She sees about 30-35 hrs use per year.
Tops are waterproof and in good shape. Vinyl cockpit seating is also very good, no rips or cracks or stains.
Both motors/drives just had the following maintenance completed fall 2023.
- New Gimbal Bearings
- New Shift Cable Bellows
- Complete New U-Joint Assy
- New U-Joint Bellows
Boat is ready to go for 2024 season. Everything works as it should.
Boat has a ton of features.
Great cockpit layout for entertaining. Double wide helm seat with flip-up bolster.
Port side lounge seat converts into unique seating for two with a bistro table.
Rear U-shape seating area with table, perfect for 5-6 adults, also converts into sunpad.
We have had 10 people on the boat for a cruise and it was comfortable.
Sleeping for 5-6 adults. The beds are actually big enough to be comfortable. Aft sleeping berth is pretty big.
6’1” cabin headroom.
Full 3 pc enclosed head (washroom) with 5’11” headroom, sink, shower, and vacuflush toilet & pumpout.

Anchor & Windlass with chain and rode, controls at the helm and at the bow (this is very handy).
Remote search light at bow.
Underwater lights at rear - nice for those summer evenings on the lake.
Cabin is in top shape. Really hasn’t been used much.
Two large overhead hatches in the cabin.
All six stainless ports open and have screens.
Sliding Cabin Door and Sliding Screen Door (surprising that few boats have a screen door)
Large lazarette (trunk) for easy shorepower connections fender storage.
Huge swim platform with boarding ladder.
Two big bow lounging cushions.
All black lines and fenders incl.
One New battery in spring 2022
2nd New battery in spring 2023
Both Cooling Impellors on the engines were done May 2021 ($500 incl parts and labour)
The impellors currently have about 100 hrs on them.
We looked for a about a year to find one with low hours and the Merc / Bravo power and we wanted to avoid the Volvo setup. Bad experiences with Volvo.
We also wanted to find a 298 without the coloured stripes on the hull. Unfortunately the stripes oxidize and fade badly in the sun. They make a great boat look like an old clunker.
We finally found this 298 and it checked all the boxes. We will be sad to see her go. It has been the perfect boat for our family, in every way. Now as empty nesters, we are changing gears and getting a centre console that we can trailer around.
You will look at a lot of boats before you see one like this.
Winter indoor storage at Kingsville, ON (Lake Erie) until May 2024.
Boat can be viewed by appointment.
$79,000. OBO
