Help someone with sight loss in Tusket and Yarmouth
Description
Are you looking for a flexible opportunity to volunteer, while seeing the real-life impact you're making? CNIB has the position for you!
As a Vision Mates, you are paired with a person who is blind or partially sighted to help with sighted tasks in their home, deliver groceries, or call to chat. Our current volunteers find this both easy (it feels like spending time with a friend) and flexible (visits/calls are scheduled between the volunteer and their match at a mutually convenient time). Training is provided.
We’re currently looking to match:
- Matthew, 59, Arcadia is looking for a volunteer to help with reading mail and books, organizing, and running errands late in the morning. He is in a wheelchair and is almost completely blind. He is a retired musician and music producer, who enjoys David Bowie and John Prine. Sometimes his cellphone answers itself and goes right to his message, best to call again as he can’t access his voicemail. He is a smoker and has a cat named Jasper.
- C, 20s, Tusket, is looking for a female volunteer to help with reading and organizing during afternoons and shopping on special occasions. She enjoys books, movies, plants, the Big Bang Theory, board games, Cribbage, and Disney.
Interested in volunteering for this position? Email jeff.deviller@cnib.ca and he'd be happy to answer any of your questions!
