Accompany a retired vertebrate paleontology grad student on prospecting forays into Alberta's badlands to photograph and geotag potentially collectible scientific specimens for the U of A, during the summer months of July-Sept (there's always next year). Details such as transportation and equipment to be determined. Enthusiastic novices and amateurs welcome. Expenses such as gas would be reduced by achieving a critical mass of individuals and vehicles. Anyone have a van with seats or a small sedan? I have a driver's license only.
If you could, it would aid in planning a Meet-Up for this if you provided the following in your reply. Copy and alter this Q&A of mine as a template if you like.
What is your age and approximate physical condition, and ability or willingness to tolerate possible infrared, ultraviolet and insects?
(I'm 67; in reasonable shape for climbing and hiking; no preexisting conditions; prepared for heat, sunburn and bugs.)What hours or days of the week might you be available due to employment or other responsibilities?
(I'm retired, prepared to go anytime, weekends or weekdays, with proper notice.)How long would you be interested in going out for at a time?
(Full daylight plus driving time, or overnight camping.)What resources are available to you?
(Bottled water, specimen zip-bags, baseball caps, pens and post-its for everyone; 6 day-packs, face masks and bandanas; Magellan handheld GPS; two 22-channel walkie-talkies; Android cell phone (WiFi only) with apps for independent/direct satellite GPS, and GPS camera; digital pocket camera; sturdy one-piece steel dinner knife; two Ruper 16X hand-lenses/loupes; flagging tape; toilet paper; AA batteries; granola bars; driver's license.)What neighbourhood or city do you live in, address optional?
(I live in the Newton neighbourhood of Edmonton, 12030 56 St.)What do you already know related to the subject?
(I was a vertebrate paleontology graduate student, and have lots of field experience in Alberta.)What financial situation are you in, in terms of what expenses you can afford to share?
(I live on basic government pension, but can afford to share gas.)Would you be willing to do this for science and respect the intent of the Alberta's Historical Resources Act?
(Yup.)What other expectations or questions might you have?
(Above.)Even for pros, success is not guaranteed, especially on one day trip, but you will probably learn something. Exercise, nature and possibly fun are also bonuses. Dry weather is essential.

Free to join and participate (website link below), no commitment needed and open to any adult, the Calgary Outdoor Club brings people together in a fun, friendly and inviting atmosphere. We strive to offer a variety of events, with some geared for beginners, some more challenging, and lots of 'somewhere in the middle' stuff. We attempt to keep events mainly free or as low-cost as possible when a cost is necessary. Club events are run by volunteer event coordinators, people just like you who want to meet others while having fun. A majority of our events take place in the Calgary area and surroundings, but occasionally we visit our neighboring provinces or travel further away from home.
Each month we host outdoor activities such as hiking, runs, festivals, bicycle rides: urban, mountain and road bike as well as tennis, inline skating (rollerblade), camping, kayaking and canoeing, disc golf, ice skating, downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, as well as indoor activities (pre and post covid) such as social events, badminton, dodgeball, ball hockey, indoor soccer, wallyball, volleyball, squash, etc, etc. We also participate in volunteering activities and special events.
The best part of our club is that if you don't see something that you'd like to do or want to see more events, you can apply to become a volunteer event coordinator and once approved, host your own event at your most convenient time, day and location. :)
For out of town events, we arrange carpools for convenience, cheaper individual fuel cost plus, it's environmentally friendly!
(No carpool allowed right now due to Covid restrictions and the Calgary Outdoor Club follows all current Covid guidelines. We even cancelled events for a while to play it safe)The event calendar looks pretty bare at the moment as we've just re-opened but don't be discouraged, have a look!
Here is the link to our website:
http://www.calgaryoutdoorclub.com/
Simply click "sign-up" next to the login button. Easy-peasy!On behalf of our many members and volunteers, we hope to see you soon!

Have a great garden and pretty well set with mostly raised beds, excellent organic soils and raise red wiggler worms for composting. It's too much work for me and end up with way too much produce for my wife and I. I am looking preferably for someone close in my neighbourhood because it's mostly daily tasks that need attending to. i start early as I grow from seeds and plants and have everything ready for the growing season. Not much is needed in this venture as I have all garden tools, com-posters and my worm friends. The environment here is very growing friendly and any avid gardener would be thrilled. We would share the produce as well as the work like watering, seeding. planting and weeding. Please contact me with any questions or inquiries and we can get together and have a chat. Our address is 8905-151st. Our property is an urban farm!!!!
