Executive Director - Horton High Child Care Centre

The Board of Directors of the Horton High Child Care Centre invites applications for the position of Executive Director. Reporting to the Board of Directors and working within the Executive Limitation constraints set by the Board, the Executive Director is responsible for the total management of the Centre's operations.
Responsibilities
Be accountable for the financial management of the center, including revenue and expenses, payroll, records, bills, parent fees, bank deposits, tax deductions and payments, grants, donations, petty cash, and subsidies.
Complete and file all paperwork sent by the Dept. of Education Early Learning Branch. i.e. Annual Report, Grant Applications etc.
Ensure compliance with licensing requirements according to the nova scotia day care act and regulations.
Support and supervise staff and ensure that the staff follows duties set by the job descriptions as well as making sure that all employees keep required certifications up to date.
Keep staff updated on policies, procedures. changes, admissions, current field research, and ideas through regular staff meetings, as well as conduct bi- annual staff evaluations.
Attend regular board meetings and provide regular updates on the center's activities and finances.
Assist in interviewing, hiring, orientating, disciplining and dismissing staff in consultation with the Board.
Coordinate staff scheduling with an approved child/teacher ratio. This includes supervising children, either at the beginning of shift or at the end of shift, as well as providing the staff with relief for lunch breaks and to allow for cleaning and sanitizing of toys.
Interview potential clients and registered children.
Provide parents with information on program activities and changes through newsletters and emails. Along with managing parent complaints, concerns or comments in a professional manner.
Maintain up-to-date and accurate center records including registration, health, evaluations, and attendance.
Purchase groceries supplies and equipment as needed, subject to Board approval.
Prepare morning and afternoon snacks and if necessary, prepare lunch, along with loading and unloading, the dishwasher and and keeping the kitchen area tidy.
Compensation & Start Date
The Executive Director will be paid an hourly wage to be determined by the Nova Scotia Department of Education, Early Learning and Child Care Wage Scale according to education and experience of the successful applicant.
About the Horton High Child Care Centre
Horton High Child Care Centre is a not-for-profit charitable organization overseen and monitored by a volunteer Board of Directors and licensed by the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. The Centre is licensed for 10 children, 6 toddler/preschoolers and 4 infants from 3 months to 17 months of age. The Centre is unique in that it offers highly needed infant care.
The Board includes parents and interested community members, with participation from the Executive Director. The Executive Director is seen as the Board's sole employee; all Board authority with respect to the staff is delegated through the Executive Director, so that all authority and accountability of staff-as far as the Board is concerned-is the authority and accountability of the Executive Director.
The Horton High Child Care Centre operates within the Horton High School. There are opportunities for the students to use some areas of the high school and to interact with some high school students in supervised settings.
The child care cente operates while school is open. The Centre closes for 2 weeks during the Winter break, 1 week for March Break and for the summer.

The Board will begin reviewing applications on 28 July 2023 and will continue until the successful applicant is selected.
