AFRO-CUBAN DRUMMING
Saturdays 10-11am Oct.7th-Nov.25th

Instruments provided, No experience required.
See http://www.trevorsalloum.comDiscover the secrets of drumming and various percussion instruments used to create the exciting and exotic sounds in popular Afro-Cuban music. (Salsa, Mambo, Cha Cha Cha, Bolero etc.) The course will include an overview of the main instruments (conga. bongo, timbales, clave, cow bell, guiro, maracas) Participants will have the opportunity to play these instruments and rhythms in an ensemble setting.
Trevor Salloum has studied with numerous Cuban master drummers. He has made several trips to Cuba and studied at the prestigious Escuela Nacional de Arte in Havana, in addition to music schools in Santiago and Guantanamo. He is a best selling author with Mel Bay Publications including The Bongo Book/CD, Afro-Latin Polyrhythms/CD, Afro-Cuban Rhythms and Afro-Cuban Percussion. Trevor has taught percussion for over 30 years in Canada and the United States. He is an endorser with LP percussion and Regal Tip.

We are looking for volunteers to take part in a study exploring, via parent-report, the relationship between protective factors and children’s resilience among children (aged 5-12 years) previously exposed to parental gender-based violence.
If you are a primary caregiver to a child aged 5-12 years who lived with you while previously experiencing gender-based violence, reside in Canada, and have internet access, you may be eligible to participate!
Participation in this study is voluntary and anonymous. If you are interested and agree to participate, you would be asked to complete an ~60-minute online survey.

We are looking for a caregiver who considers themselves empathetic, understands anxiety, and can support mental health daily. This individual is looking for a family to include her in daily/weekly activities, such as movie nights, playing board games, playing video games, and going to the gym for a workout. This individual would like to increase their social network, enjoy spending time at home, and consider their bedroom a safe space.
This individual wants to engage with people who listen, are reliable, have open communication and are honest. This individual needs to be around supportive, positive people with a good sense of humour. They can make life decisions, get around in their community, and manage their finances independently. The caregiver will need to make and provide dinners focusing on education and nutrition. This individual needs assistance with their personal weekly cleaning. Kinsight also provides this individual with a weekly outreach worker they enjoy and look forward to.

BCCSA’s comprehensive, two-day standardized Traffic Control Persons (TCPs) course, consists of classroom and practical training. There are no prerequisites however, participants should have a good understanding of the rules of the road (class 5 or another driver’s license is recommended).
Participation requires:
