We have some week old Jersey Giant Chicks available. This is the last hatch of the season. Jerseys are a slow growing dual purpose hardy bird. The hens lay lovely brown eggs and although they are slow growing, if you fancy a nice roast chicken - they are worth the wait. Jerseys are quite docile, agreeable birds. My flock of East Friesian and Merino cross sheep are for sale due to change of life circumstances. There are two rams: Bud is a 3 year old proven East Friesian ram and Hawthorne is a 4 year old proven Merino xGotland cross. Val, East Friesian/Merino cross has two lambs born in late March with her. The 4 yearling ewes each successfully birthed with no/minimal assistance a lamb in late April/early May. The yearling ewes were bred to their grandfathers (either Bud or Hawthorne) so this spring's crop of lambs are intended for harvesting in the fall. All adults were shorn in May/June and had their hooves trimmed. They were dewormed in June. Can be sold as a whole group: $3,500 (average $270/head) or in smaller groups (message me for price) Price reflects the fact that I have had cl on my farm in the past, I aggressively treated and then culled and completely changed the herd after a few years' break, but they are not tested. This has been a closed herd since the first year with the older adults. The animals I am selling show radiant health and vigour and have been dewormed in early June. All lambs had uncomplicated births and nurse their moms (no bottle babies). Message for smaller groups' pricing. Oh, and they come with their longtime herdmate: Sambucha the guardian llama who doesn't like our dogs (who are not in with the sheep but guard around their pens/pastures). TOTAL: 13 sheep and 1 llama. Sambucha is not factored into the price. He is halter trained but doesn't love it unless you are taking him for a grassy walk. I have the rams and spring lambs cross posted in other separate, ads. Will update this one, as sheep sell.

WHAT ARE APPENZELLER SPITZHAUBENS?
Appenzeller Spitzhaubens are a rare breed of chicken who originated in the Appenzell region of Switzerland. They are very cold hardy foragers. The roosters are very attentive and very protective of their hens while also being friendly with people. The hens are good layers of medium sized white eggs (180-200 eggs per year). They will occasionally go broody. They are also relatively small (hens weigh 2.6 to 3.5 pounds, roosters weigh 3.3 to 4.5 pounds) so they consume less feed and don’t take up too much space. They are our favorite chicken breed! Our Spitzhaubens are especially friendly with humans. Even broody raised Spitzhaubens jump on our shoulders and enjoy being held. None of our other breeds have done this.
