Reporting to the Superintendent, the Carpenter is responsible for layout, installation, repairing, finishing, and maintaining various structures, fixtures, and buildings. Other duties will include designing, cutting, and measuring materials according to a client's requirements.
The incumbent will also work in cooperation with other trades and labourers to ensure that all specifications, legislation and policies are met, and to ensure efficient completion of any project.
This is a permanent, full-time position
Qualifications:
5+ years’ technical and trade experience
Red Seal or Journeyman/Journeywoman or Red Seal Candidates prioritized
Understanding of the current regulations within the field
Excellent interpersonal communication skills on a technical level
Able to work both independently and as part of a team
Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Must be flexible with good judgement delivering high level of efficiency and proficiency
Must demonstrate a positive and professional demeanor
Strong client focus with demonstrated ability to deliver excellent customer service
Must have a strong work ethic and be reliable
Physically fit with good hand-eye coordination
Current driver’s license
Able to pass the required criminal record and vulnerable sector background checks
Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform all aspects of carpentry for new construction or renovation work in accordance with work orders, building codes, plans and specifications
Ability to read and interpret blueprints
Conduct repair work and installation of doors, windows, drywall, cabinets, stairs, and other fixtures as required
Ability to assess the quality of woodwork and materials
Ability to operate tools, machines, and other equipment
Compliance with local building codes, and health and safety regulations
Completion of work order forms, detailing work performed and materials used
Oversee skilled labourers that are assigned to assist with any project work
Perform tasks in accordance to health and safety standards
Other duties as required and assigned
Working Conditions
Indoors/outdoors at various construction sites
Walking and standing for long periods of time
Bending, crouching, and crawling
Climbing ladders and working at heights
Working in outside conditions that include inclement weather,
Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required (ie: hard hat, safety boots, etc.)
Manual dexterity required to operate computer and peripherals
Additional hazards associated with the construction industry
Be able to lift up to 50lb’s
