*These very calm, gentle & hardy dual-purpose birds can live roughly 10 years rarely getting sick.
*Hens can weigh 6 - 8 lbs, & Roos 8 - 10 lbs which discourages many predators.
*They are world record holders of # of eggs in a year, laying large light brown eggs.
*I’ve never seen an Australorp rooster that showed any type of aggression to anyone.
*They eat less than the more high-strung breeds, & fed on almost only pasture & without lights, they can produce as many or more than other breeds even when the others are being fed layer feed & under lights. With the quickly rising prices of feed, this is a valuable trait.
