1970 MGB-GT
Description
Rare split bumper, 1970 MGB-GT, flame red, in immaculate condition. It has two rear seats and hatchback storage compartment.
It has manual brakes, manual steering, manual transmission, hand winding windows, no radio but speakers for ipod, dual carburetors, manual choke, rack and pinion steering. and collector license plates.
It has had a complete frame up restoration, motor, transmission, rear-end, brakes, wheels, gas tank, new carpets, and undercoated from inside. This is a collector car and has not seen rain for fifty years.
The original owner imported the car to Switzerland and avoided the British requirement of a solid bumper. After a few years she moved to Chilliwack B. C. to farm and the car got stored in a barn for 25 years. In transit from Switzerland the car was scratched by some furniture that got loose and the car was repainted in 1973 by the insurance company. There was some minor damage to the right rear fender which was repaired. She decided to have it tuned up for her grandson but he was injured in a motorcycle accident and never drove it. My buddy saw the car where it was being tuned up and inquired about purchasing it. He left his business card (U-two restorations) and three months later, she called and sold it.
My buddy is an Englishman who grew up tinkering with MG's and BMW's. He immigrated to Canda and serviced BMW motorcycles until the firm went to Harley Davidson. I had seen the car in his toy garage for 23 years and as it was the first car I owned as a youth I asked to have the first option to purchase if he ever sold it. I have owned it for about 4 years.
I had asked him, "What was wrong with the car when you bought it", He replied "nothing". So I asked him "why the restoration?". He said he had injured his knee one winter and for something to do he decided to clean the coil and then got carried away with doing the whole car.
I'm 74 and fell off a roof two years ago and broke my back and eight other bones. I live on a 7 acre hobby farm with horses and other pets but we are starting to downsize as I am somewhat disabled and so with regret this gem is going to a fourth owner.
It is a car from a time gone by where it does not have all the fancy electronics and power this and that but can be worked on without a hundred thousand dollar diagnostic machine. It is in many ways a glorified go cart but it goes like stink and turns heads whenever it gets on the road. Call me 604 462-0149 or email gordyoung@shaw.ca.
