Canadian Red Cross Babysitter course
The Canadian Red Cross Babysitter course cost is $55.00 (including tax) each, which includes the Canadian Red Cross Manual, First Aid Kit, and completion card.
- Please make sure you supply a contact phone number if not already done.
- We do require preregistration and prepayment. Please make sure to register before you make payment.
- This course is for young people 12 and over to babysit and stay alone. This is of course at the discretion of the parents or caregivers. A young person can take this course at 11, but we have been told they should not be left alone or babysit until they are 12.
- The parents or caregivers should send a lunch, snack, and drink with their child.
- They need to bring a teddy bear or doll about the size of a small baby to the class. They will use this to practise putting on diapers and for their first aid skills.
- Please note that cancellation notice is appreciated within 7 business days of the course date that you wish to cancel.
- Please note there is no refund policy. See below for more details. Refunds are not available. No exceptions.
Course Location/Location details/Times:
- Course is at 440 Wilsey Road, Suite 104, Fredericton Industrial Park. Please use our outside entrance at the side of the building (Same building as Liberty Utilities).
- The course runs 9AM-4PM, but participants should arrive at least 15 minutes early. Doors open at 8:30.
- Outdoor shoes are not permitted. Please bring a pair of indoor shoes to be worn in the facility.
- The parents or caregivers should send a lunch, snack, and drink with their child.
- There is a refrigerator and microwave provided for their use. I do sell pop, chocolate bars, etc. for them to purchase during their class if you wish to send a bit of change for a snack. Lunch is 30 minutes.
- Please have them bring a teddy bear or doll about the size of a small baby to the class. They will use this to practice putting on diapers and for their first aid skills.
Course Information:
The Babysitting course, refreshed and revised, now has a greater emphasis on First Aid skills. The Canadian Red Cross Babysitting course covers everything from managing difficult behaviours to essential content on leadership and professional conduct as a babysitter. Babysitting promises to deepen and enhance the responsibility that older youth feel when caring for younger children. This updated curriculum, complete with new science, also provides improved learning when it comes to giving the appropriate care in the event of an emergency.
COURSE CONTENT
• How to be responsible and demonstrate leadership
• How to make good decisions and manage difficult behaviours
• Information on children’s developmental stages, and specific strategies for each stage
• How to feed, diaper, dress, and play with children and babies
• How to recognize and prevent unsafe situations, make safe choices, and promote safe behaviours
• First Aid Content:
Check, Call, Care (includes phoning EMS/911), glove removal, recovery position, conscious choking (adult/child/baby/alone), CPR (baby/child), illness, asthma (includes use of inhaler and spacer), anaphylaxis (includes use of EpiPen), poisoning, insect stings, wound care (i.e. minor cuts and scrapes, splinters, nosebleeds, bumps and bruises, life-threatening bleeding, burns), head, neck and back injuries, broken bones, seizures.

Administration Fees:
If you cancel between the date of the course and up to 7 business days (Monday to Friday) before, you will be required to pay a $50 administration fee.
Cancellation Information:
In case of pandemic related issues, weather conditions, not enough participants, instructor emergencies, personal issues/emergencies of participants, etc.:
- If KCM postpones or you have to postpone, your fee will be transferred to another course date. We will try to accommodate for another class as quickly as possible. Refunds are not available. No exceptions. We will make sure that participants will always get the course they have paid for. Fees can also be transferred to someone else if needed. You have one year from the date of the course.
- I will try to give you as much notice as possible if we need to postpone a course. As rescheduling is difficult, I only postpone if absolutely necessary.
- Please make sure a personal number is supplied so I can contact each participant.
- If the weather is a concern, please text or call me as that is easier than me contacting everyone. Please do not text or call any earlier than 7:00. I do use radio to postpone a course, but I prefer to receive a text or call from everyone.
- As Safety and Prevention are a huge part of what we teach, we will cancel a course if we think in any way the students or instructor’s safety is at risk, even if it has to be a last-minute decision.
