Systems Administrator- Operations Support Specialist x 2
Description
Our client, a leader in the Education industry, is looking for a Systems Administrator/Operations Support Specialists for an initial 11 month contract with a target start date of mid February.
This person will provide systems administration and systems operations support, including setting up user access, user profiles, backup and recovery, day-to-day computer systems operations in a Microsoft Windows Server environment.
Advantages
- This position will be predominantly remote. While we will consider people in Ontario who must work 100% remotely, preference will be given to people
who are able to work on-site in Ottawa occasionally.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Provides systems administration and systems operations support, including setting up user access, user profiles, backup and recovery, day-to-day computer systems operations in a Microsoft Windows Server environment.
-Perform software upgrades, apply patches, and provide customer interface to ensure requested changes are implemented, monitor computer workload trends and make adjustments to ensure optimum utilization of computer resources.
- Upkeep, configure, install and support the client's network and coordinate the various systems.
Qualifications
SKILLS NEEDED
- Honours degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
-Seven years’ experience in Systems Administration, including:
• Operating Systems support in a network environment, including VLANs, network interface configuration, and various internet protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, DNS, HTTPS, SMTP, NTP);
• File systems configuration and management including NTFS, Fat32, Ext4, NFS, and remotely supplied NAS/SAN file systems;
• Networked directory services security and administration including, Active Directory LDAP services;
• Microsoft Clients and Servers (including security features and administration);
• Configuration and support for virtualization technologies, in particular VMware or HyperV;
• Administer and implement systems security with a demonstrated knowledge of firewall rules, file permissions, user groups, account administration, and package management;
• OS scripting and programming tools (MS batch file, VB, Windows PowerShell, Windows ScriptHost,etc)
GENERAL SKILLS:
-Experience setting up user access and user profiles, backup and recovery, and day-to-day computer systems operations
- Experience with one or more operating systems
-Experience with one or more hardware platforms
-Experience with information retrieval packages
-Experience with one or more communications protocols
-Experience with middleware and gateways
-Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills;
verbal and written communication skills; and interpersonal skills
-A team player with a track record for meeting deadlines
DESIRABLE SKILLS:
-Experience with distributed and networked systems
- Awareness of emerging IT trends Experience in one or more programming languages
-Knowledge and understanding of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA) and related regulations and standards
