"For more than 150 years, Africville was home to a community of Nova Scotia black families. Located o n the shores of the Bedford Basin, Africville was part of the City of Halifax. Central to Africville's life were the church and the school. Working together, residents sought without success to obtain basic services from the municipal government to which they paid their property taxes. In the 1960s Halifax's city government decided to acquire the land and demolish the houses, destroying the community. Most residents opposed this decision, but the City had its way." - from the cover.

THIS BOOK IS FROM AWARD WINNING, BEST SELLING "KING OF HORROR" AUTHOR STEPHEN KING!
Published by Scribner, New York, 2011. 1st edition 1st printing Hardcover.
Book Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good in a Brodart mylar cover. Full Number Line. There is no writing, marks, underlining, or bookplates. No remainder marks. Spine is tight and crisp. Boards are flat and true, and the corners are square. Dust jacket is not price-clipped, shows no wear and is protected by a Brodart mylar cover. This is a collectible, first edition/first printing copy. 849 pages. On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King--who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer--takes readers on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.
It begins with Jake Epping, a thirty-five-year-old English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine, who makes extra money teaching GED classes. He asks his students to write about an event that changed their lives, and one essay blows him away--a gruesome, harrowing story about the night more than fifty years ago when Harry Dunning's father came home and killed his mother, his sister, and his brother with a sledgehammer. Reading the essay is a watershed moment for Jake, his life--like Harry's, like America's in 1963--turning on a dime. Not much later his friend Al, who owns the local diner, divulges a secret: his storeroom is a portal to the past, a particular day in 1958. And Al enlists Jake to take over the mission that has become his obsession--to prevent the Kennedy assassination. So begins Jake's new life as George Amberson, in a different world of Ike and JFK and Elvis, of big American cars and sock hops and cigarette smoke everywhere. From the dank little city of Derry, Maine (where there's Dunning business to conduct), to the warm hearted small town of Jodie, Texas, where Jake falls dangerously in love, every turn is leading eventually, of course, to a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and to Dallas, where the past becomes heart-stoppingly suspenseful, and where history might not be history anymore. Time-travel has never been so believable. Or so terrifying.

Pottersfield Press, Lawrencetown Beach NS, 1st edition softcover, 2016. Book condition: Very Good with very Light rubbing wear to cover, and a couple of pages that were turned down as a bookmark. Contains a previous owner’s name, as well as the authors signature on the title page. 126 pages. Signed by the author.
On September 2, 1998, Swissair Flight 111 plunged into the sea near the mouth of St. Margaret's Bay in Nova Scotia, killing all 229 on board. Thousands of people responded immediately: emergency personnel, fishermen, the military, divers, community searchers and RCMP officials. In the days, weeks and months after the crash, local residents and ordinary people supported the investigation in any way they could and, more critically, they also sought to comfort the families of the victims.
In the face of this almost unimaginable event, many experienced enormous suffering and world views were changed forever for the survivors – both the friends and relatives of the victims as well as support teams and the local communities of St. Margaret's Bay, Halifax and beyond. What carried so many of them through this tragedy was the astonishing generosity and kindness each group gave to the other. As Wilson writes, "We all needed the families as much as they needed us."
She wrote this collection of poems "in gratitude and in celebration of the thousands of men and women who suffered – and sometimes triumphed – during the months and years that followed the crash." The poems reveal the depth of the impact the crash of Swissair 111 had on so many people.ISBN: 9781897426814
