THE FLORAL DESIGNER
The Floral Designer Diploma program is intended for individuals interested in working in the Floral Industry. Success in your chosen career as a Floral Designer depends on a combination of artistic abilities and hands-on experience. At the school of Floral Design, organized by the Hamilton School of Careers & Hamilton Institute of Technology, students are given plenty of opportunity to explore the artistic talent while learning the basics of retailing.
THE FLORAL DESIGNER
In this 36 week program, students will study the basic floral culture, names and cares of fresh flowers, dealing with the grower or the wholesaler, oasis shop management, telephone personality, sales and advertising, as well as cleaning and sanitation.
Students will learn the basic on how to design with silk, fresh, dried and exotic flowers, in traditional, Victorian, Oriental, European and Modern flower arrangements for all occasions and learn the forms of designs, circular, round shape, horizontal, vertical, oval, fan, crescent, Symmetrical and Asymmetrical triangles, hand-tied bouquets, Hogarth S-curve, and European designs. The techniques of Design Color harmony, basing, focal area, terracing, grouping, framing, banding, binding, clustering, Feathering, shadowing, parallelism
Students will receive instruction in arm bouquet for brides, flower for young attendants, bridesmaid’s bouquet, arrangements for church ceremonies and reception, corsages, boutonnieres, and body flowers, hair flower pieces, upright European bouquets and wedding presentation. Wedding order procedures, wiring and taping techniques.
Students will focus on "Selling a Wedding", "Fashions and Trends", "Delivery", "Set-up" and "Services".
Students will study the Art of Japanese floral designs. They will also learn to design baby novelties, wine and cheese baskets, moss wreaths, grapevine and Styrofoam wreaths, crafts.
Sympathy tributes construction of funeral baskets, casket and standing sprays, non-traditional table pieces, vase arrangements, wreaths, hearts, crosses, and special request pieces including appropriate pricing, delivery and set up.
Students will focus on floral designing with Designing of a floral shop, the retail florists know the importance of a good display that will attract customers into the store and encourages them into buying on impulse.
They will learn the basic principal of visual merchandising and new ideas for displays as well as the Care & Handling of Fresh Flowers Processing, merchandising, fresh flower and plant identification, availability of floral products in the Canadian marketplace.
Students will see at the school large selection of fresh, silk, exotic and dried flowers. Silk tropical flowers, plants and orchids and all floral supplies, ceramics, containers, glassware, gift baskets, wreaths, swags, Christmas trees, Christmas decorations, Christmas garlands, Father Christmas, Santa’s and much more.
