The brilliant LC4 showcases twenty-four carats of fun. From the trademark 690 cm³ thumper, the engineers have now extracted a whopping 73 hp (54 kW) and 74 Nm of torque, making light work of the equally lightweight 690 Duke. How it happened? They completely reworked the cylinder head, inserted a new, ultra light and extremely strong piston and connection rod, rerouted the air intake through a resonator chamber and provided the new crankshaft with new sleeve bearings. As a result, the powerband now is a thousand rpm wider, which means an even more uniform power delivery, especially in the mid to high rev range. Twin ignition featuring plug-selective mapping, rock solid but featherweight internals and optimized intake and exhaust systems cultivate this massive mono to be as strong as it is smooth, assisted by an advanced ride-by-wire system with three riding modes, which guarantees great refinement as well as low fuel consumption and emission figures. You’re green, while they’re green with envy. And you haven’t even begun mentioning upmarket goodies like a standard slipper clutch.
- NEW CYLINDER HEAD
Inside the new cylinder head, the exhaust valves are actuated by roller rockers while the camshaft powers the intake valves. Therefore, the ignition timings can be controlled with far greater accuracy. The result is more peak power over a broader rev range. Win-win!
- SECOND BALANCER
In a free-revving firecracker like this, you want to smooth things out a bit. That’s why the camshaft serves as a bonus balancer shaft, nipping annoying vibrations in the bud.
- ENGINE MANAGEMENT
The electronic engine management system lives to make the LC4 shine. Twin ignition with individual mappings for each spark plug ensures that your precious fuel is always burned to perfection, irrespective of load and engine speed. And then there is genuine ride-by-wire, in other words: Electronically controlled throttle valve actuation without any mechanical linkage. You’d be forgiven for thinking it runs on cream. Whipped cream, that is.
- FRAME AND SWINGARM
The 9 kg tubular trellis frame made from chrome-molybdenum steel and the equally lightweight, smoking hot swingarm, die-cast in aluminum, impress with extreme levels of torsional stiffness, providing the 148,5 kg Duke with excellent tracking stability and a continuous flow of information to the rider. New triple clamps lower the fork offset, which underlines this characteristic even further. You’ll notice.

Engine & Drivetrain- Torque monster
The new Rebel 1100 uses a modified version of the 1,084 cc, liquid-cooled engine that powers the acclaimed Africa Twin, ensuring arm-pulling acceleration from low speeds and impressive top-end performance. The engine’s parallel-twin configuration and Unicam cylinder head contribute to the bike’s overall low centre of gravity and optimum mass centralization, which help produce stable, road-hugging, confident handling.
- Tuned for cruising
To give the Rebel 1100 its unique cruiser personality, valve timing and lift and even ignition timing were modified from Africa Twin spec, while flywheel mass was boosted 20 percent to increase inertia. The 270-degree crankshaft features uneven firing intervals that produce the powerful engine pulses that make riding a big-twin cruiser so much fun.
Chassis & Suspension- Suspension
Classic “piggyback” style twin rear shocks not only look the business, they also ensure consistent damping force for a controlled, comfortable ride over all types of road surfaces. Engine & Drivetrain- Parallel-Twin Engine
For 2020 the CRF1100 Africa Twin's displacement has been increased to 1,084 cc's. As a result the peak power has increased by 7% and peak torque by 6%. The obvious increase in both power and torque makes itself felt from 2,500 RPM all the way through to the redline. This increase was achieved through engine refinements such as increasing the piston stroke, installing larger throttle bodies as well as updating the cylinder head and ECU settings.
- 270-degree Phased Crankshaft
A 270-degree phased crankshaft and uneven firing interval gives a distinctive sound and feel while helping to produce strong and linear power and instant response anywhere in the rev range.
- Exhaust Control Valve
To better manage the uprated intake efficiency and higher output the exhaust end-can now features a variable Exhaust Control Valve (ECV) very similar to the unit fitted to the CBR1000RR. It enhances both engine performance and efficiency as it opens at higher rpm and gives a pleasing exhaust note ‘pulse’ at lower rpm.
Chassis / Suspension- New Frame Design
Electronic suspension is now standard in the form of, Showa Electronically Equipped Ride Adjustment (Showa EERA™). Showa EERA™ adjusts damping force relative to riding mode selected and aims to deliver high-quality suspension reaction in diverse and opposite conditions - riding comfort at slower speeds and stability at higher speeds.
- Aluminum Subframe
A bolt-on aluminum subframe replaces the integral steel structure of the previous design and is 40 mm slimmer at a width of 195 mm – crucial for easier ground reach.
- Aluminum Swingarm
The aluminum swingarm is all-new, 500g lighter and improves rigidity, rear wheel traction and rider feel.
Additional Features- New Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU)
At the very heart of the Africa Twin’s elevated on- and off-road performance is a Bosch MM7.10 six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) that measures 6-axis of data and sends that information to other critical systems like: HSTC, ABS and wheelie control… these systems then make adjustments in real-time to give you total control.
- ABS Brakes
This system works in conjunction with the IMU by taking in all the data from the bike on speed, deceleration and lean angle to prevent rear wheel lock up or rear wheel lift. This makes sure you can stop quickly and keep both wheels planted to the road. There are on and off-road settings and rear ABS can be turned off in certain settings.
