We are currently looking for a Health and Safety Officer to join our team! This is an entry level position. The H&S Coordinator reporting to the Human Resource Manager will be responsible for providing operational support for all health and safety requirements of AWD Ltd and its sister companies. This individual will work closely with the JHSC and Senior Management to ensure that the H&S program is maintained and communicated to employees, regulatory requirements are met, and that all training standards are maintained. Accountabilities · Ensure the company’s H&S program is kept up to date, promoted to all impacted individuals and is enforced. · Assist in the development, revision, and maintenance of policies, safety data sheets, procedures, forms, and documents related to AWD’s H&S program. · Provides assistance and support to divisional supervisors and managers in the gathering of information and documentation to support HR in the WSIB claims management, adjudication, appeals and return to work processes. · Participate in regular inspections of all workplace locations. · Assist in representing the company on Health and Safety matters. · Leads and provides expert direction on work refusals, critical injury investigations, inspections, and orders in conjunction with the appropriate joint health and safety representatives. · Identifies and analyzes health, safety, and wellness training needs and, through leadership and consultation, develops, designs, and delivers training/workshops, team building and education programs to meet divisional and organizational needs. · Follow-up on all injuries, near misses, and hazards. · Prepares, maintains, and submits up to date documentation, where required by the Ministry of Labour (MOL) · Responsible for tracking employee safety training certificates · Chair all safety related meetings including Joint Health & Safety (JHSC) Committee meetings. · Serve as a resource and provide guidance and assistance to the Joint Health and Safety Committee · Scheduling training for staff · Filing, tracking, and distributing various safety related documents for due diligence · Other responsibilities within the scope and spirit of the role as required. REQUIREMENTS · Experience in Occupational Health and Safety · Strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively with staff, all levels of management. · Well-developed analytical and organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously to meet established deadlines. · Demonstrated understanding of principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. · The ability to exercise discretion, judgement, and work independently while demonstrating a high degree of initiative and creativity. · Knowledge in of applicable legislation Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, etc. · Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Qualifications · Completion of a Health and Safety related certificate/diploma or related professional designation · 3-5 years' experience in a similar role within manufacturing · A good understanding of, and experience overseeing compliance to provincial legislation and regulations, including Occupational Health and Safety Act, ESA, Bill 148, the Ontario Human Rights Code, etc. · Sound knowledge of WSIB regulations to ensure that the company complies with applicable legislations. · Success in developing, implementing, and coordinating health and safety programs. · Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills · Excellent planning skills and well organized · Trained in Emergency First Aid and/or First Response an asset.
