Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and food. Prepare and cook special meals for patients as instructed by dietitian or chef. Schedule and supervise kitchen helpers. Oversee kitchen operations. Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment. May set up and oversee buffets. May clean kitchen and work area. Cooks specialize in preparing and cooking ethic cuisine or special dishes. Prepare sauces, salads and soups according to established recipes and make sure to store them correctly. Perform portioning and garnishing work to ensure an aesthetic appearance for each dish prepared. Measure and use the correct amount of ingredients to cook menu items.
