50-Cent Holiday Snowman Coin (2008)Nothing says winter fun for young and old alike than a snowman! Sculpting people from snow is a pastime that dates back to Europe in the Middle Ages. Old diaries give lively accounts of townspeople making snowmen in the streets after every snowfall, perhaps that is where the tradition of using a hat, a carrot for the nose and rocks or bits of coal for the eyes comes from.
This is the second coin in the Royal Canadian Mint's Holiday Lenticular annual series. The beautiful coloured design gives the illusion of movement tilt the coin and watch as the snowman throws snow in the air!ITEM SPECIFACTIONS

In the heart of our nation’s capital, the hallowed walls of Parliament are home to thousands of carved and sculpted artworks of exceptional beauty. The Royal Canadian Mint is proud to showcase some of the many delights that grace these spaces with this three-coin series featuring carvings inspired by the sculptural art of Parliament.
Coin No. 1: Grotesque Wild Green Man
This $25 coin is 99.99% pure silver, with a diameter of 36 millimetres and a nominal metal weight of 30.75 grams. Engraved in ultra-high relief, the coin features an original depiction by Dominion Sculptor Phil White of a Gothic-style grotesque inspired by a carving found on the East Block of the Parliament Buildings. The image portrays the mythical Wild Green Man. The fierce figure’s foliate hair, brows, moustache, and beard dominate its face along with wide staring eyes and bared teeth. This expressive image seems to emerge from the coin face thanks to detailed engraving in ultra-high relief.
Coin No. 2: Grotesque Foliated Green Man
Engraved in ultra-high relief, the coin features an original depiction by Dominion Sculptor Phil White of a Gothic-style grotesque interpreted from a carving found on the East Block of the Parliament Buildings. The image portrays a Green man disgorging stylized “stiff-leaf” foliage from its mouth. The staring figure’s brows and hair are also composed of whirling, stylized leaves and stems.

2009 Canada King Edward VIII Copper High Relief Antique Finish Medallion
Canada did not always produce its coins domestically. Until the Royal Canadian Mint opened in 1908, Canadian coins were imported from overseas. Even then, the designs and tools remained the domain of the Royal Mint in London while the Canadian facility operated as its Ottawa branch. This began to change in 1930 when the Mint became a wholly owned Canadian institution.
The reverse shows the uncrowned effigy of Edward VIII who was king of Britain from January 20 to December 11, 1936. When he acceded to the throne in January, preparations for new coins bearing his effigy began, but Edward VIII abdicated before the production tools for all the coins to be issued in Britain and its colonies were completed. Hence, this particular effigy never entered circulation in Canada. The effigy itself is in ultra high relief which is reminiscent of ancient medallic art.

Bald Eagles are found across Canada, thriving on the country’sPacific Coast in particular. Bald Eagles prefer to nest in large trees near isolated, well-stocked bodies of water. Their nests are among the largest in the world, sometimes several metres in height!
The great Bald Eagle is an amazing predator whose image hasbecome synonymous with the notions of freedom, majesty, strength and individualism in North America—particularly for its well-known symbolic status in the United States of America. Eagles, in general, are renowned as much for their hunting skills, speed, and strength as for their striking looks and size. A large brown-feathered raptor with white-feathered head and tail, razor-sharp talons and sharp hooked beak, the Bald Eagle’s vision is four times sharper than in humans, and is key to its hunting prowess.

The Legacy of Liberty set of limited-edition coins contains three pure Silver Maple Leaf coins with the following privy marks: D-Day, VE Day and VJ Day. An additional colourized Poppy quarter is a stirring symbol shared by the VFW and Royal Canadian Legion of the ultimate sacrifice and price so many paid for freedom.
In 2004, The RCM released a special 25-cent to commemorate the men and women who served the great country of Canada in achieving liberty and peace. It was the world's first coloured circulation coin and it immediately became a big hit and a collector's item. It was named the Most Innovative Circulation Coin in the Mint Directors' Conference (MDC) in France. 30 million of these coins were minted. With a face value of 25 cents, the reverse of the coin comes with a coloured image of the poppy, a powerful symbol of remembrance, while the obverse displays the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
