__________________________________About The Instruments:
Paiste Gongs:
Planet Gongs are tuned to the natural harmonic series based on the orbital properties of the Earth, Moon, Sun, and Planets. All of these gongs resonate in harmony with the celestial bodies and communicate a distinct aspect of the Music of the Spheres, which was first documented by Pythagoras in the 6th Century BC. Each planet gong contributes a vital pitch to the total harmonic resonance of our solar system.
Crystal Bowls:
The bowls are made of 99.992% crushed quartz crystal that is heated to 4000 degrees in a centrifugal mold. The thickness of the bowl determines the note, digitally tuned to C D E F G A and B corresponding to the charkas, our energy centers; root (C), sacral (D), solar plexus (E), heart (F), throat (G), third eye (A), and crown (. The diameter of the bowl determines the pitch, ranging from 6 inches to 22 inches.
Persian Santoor:
Persian Santoor consists of a trapeziform case made of walnut wood, approximately 90 cm wide at the broad end, 36 cm wide at the narrow end and 6 cm deep. The strings are fixed to hitch-pins along the left-hand side and wound round metal wrest-pins on the right by means of which they are tuned with a tuning-key (Tuning Wrench). Each quadruple set of strings rests on a movable bridge of hardwood (kharak). The bridges are placed so that the strings are divided into three sections, giving the fundamental note and two higher octaves.
There are nine (or sometimes 10, 11 and 12) quadruple strings an either side so that, with 18 groups of strings, 27 different notes can be played. The bass strings are of brass or copper and the trebles of steel.
Persian Santoor is played by striking the strings with two light hammers (mezrab) held in three fingers of each hand. The ends of the sticks are usually covered with cloth to soften their impact on the strings.
Harmonica:
The harmonica, also known as a French harp or mouth organ, is a free reed wind instrument used worldwide in many musical genres, notably in blues, American folk music, classical music, jazz, country, and rock and roll. There are many types of harmonica, including diatonic, chromatic, tremolo, octave, orchestral, and bass versions. A harmonica is played by using the mouth (lips and tongue) to direct air into or out of one or more holes along a mouthpiece. Behind each hole is a chamber containing at least one reed. A harmonica reed is a flat elongated spring typically made of brass, stainless steel, or bronze

About this event
April 2nd, 8pm Almonte Town Hall. Tickets at Mill Street Books Almonte and online at Tickets Please.
Brooks & Bowskill is the partnership of Brittany Brooks and Jimmy Bowskill (Blue Rodeo, The Sheepdogs). Their music journeys between the old and the new, weaving elements of 60s folk rock, 70s country twang and contemporary Americana into a sound that is completely their own. Brooks & Bowskill will melt your heart with their sweet harmonies and then rock the house with their 5-piece band of veteran musicians.
"Too Many Roads"(Released Jan. 12, 2023) is their impressive and stunning 12 song debut LP, showcasing the undeniable chemistry and talent of this exciting new collaboration. The couple wrote the songs together and to each other, reflecting on the cosmic fate of their new found love and the roads they traveled to get there. Brooks' velvety croon is of another time and Bowskill’s instrumentation is masterful in this genre-bending debut.
Listen to "Too Many Roads": https://linktr.ee/brooksandbowskill
Bowskill is noted as one of Canada’s best guitarists and multi-instrumentalists, known for playing lead guitar in The Sheepdogs and as multi-instrumentalist in iconic country rock band Blue Rodeo playing pedal steel guitar, fiddle, mandolin and guitar. Bowskill cut his teeth incredibly young, earning esteemed recognition at the seasoned age of 12 when he became the youngest musician to ever be nominated for a JUNO Award. Since then he has released numerous albums as a solo artist and with The Jimmy Bowskill Band.
Most recently, Bowskill has stepped into role of music producer and recording engineer at his recording studio Ganaraska Recording Co.
Born with the gift of rhyme and storytelling, Brooks is known for her imagery-rich lyrics that pour from a direct heart line. Her voice sounds as though she walked off a Greenwich Village stage in the 60s and was on her way to play the late set at a country honky tonk. Her buttery vocals have been described as a dance between Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris and Norah Jones. Over the past decade, Brooks has released multiple original albums and EPs under different monikers, all supported by her particular style of guitar and claw hammer banjo playing.

This event is for experienced line dancers, with at least 1 year experience. Would you like to “Come Dance With Us?” As “Another Year Bites the Dust” we start planning for 2023 and select all the line dance events we would like to attend. “Tell the World” that you are attending Nickel City Line Dance Classic (NCLDC) – Let’s Dance Again! “Where Oh Where” is that located? Sudbury, Ontario, Canada of course! This will be our 11th year hosting this workshop (can’t call it “annual” anymore due to COVID) and Northern Ontario’s Only Line Dance Event charged with excitement! We can’t compete with the larger events, but we have fun just the same! After COVID, we need to meet and dance together again, and if you have never joined us in the past, then this will be the year to do it - you won’t be disappointed!
Our guest instructor will be Zandra McCallum from Burlington, ON, and of course our local instructors – “Pete” Vincent-Schroeder, Marthe Thibeault, Colette Proulx and Carol Larocque. Your playlist for the evening dance is decided by you, the dancers! Please ensure that you submit your requests, as the playlist will only be as good as the requests received.
Same venue as in the past – Polish Combatant Hall, with very nice hardwood flooring, and a stage so you can see the instructors’ feet!
Instruction will happen from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. with an hour taken for lunch (included in your registration cost). Supper hour break (on your own) will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Doors will re-open at 7:15 p.m. and it will be up to you to be ready to “Dance Without a Partner”!!!
Our charity of choice will be the Blue Door Soup Kitchen, which relies solely on donations, as they do not receive funding of any kind. Door prizes are given out at lunch time. 50/50 draw will take place at 4:10 p.m. Cost: Early Bird - $55, after July 1/23 - $65.
Come join us – we’ll save a place for you on the dancefloor! There are no strangers here – only friends we haven’t met yet!
For more information or flyer and registration forms, visit Dancin’ Feet in Motion – www.dancinfeetinmotion.ca – NCLDC 2023 tab. Also listed in that same tab are recommended hotels and restaurants for your dining pleasure, and directions from your hotel to the hall.
