Study Title: How do you feel about Covid-19?
Eligibility Requirements: Seeking individuals who are 17 years or older who can read and write well in English to partake in a two-part study. This study examines the psychological and behavioral responses to Covid-19 and examining the potential benefits of expressive writing on processing and coping with challenges posed by Covid-19.
Study description: The objective of this two-phase study is to examine the relationship between personality characteristics and life circumstances on coping responses to the 2019 Coronavirus (Covid-19). For phase 1, participants will complete an online questionnaire. The online questionnaire will ask questions about participants’ current life circumstances (e.g., employment status and type, how they are currently affected by Covid-19), their mental health status (e.g., anxiety, depression), how they cope with negative life events or challenges, and how they feel about the future. The second phase of the study will consist of completing daily online expressive writing activities for fourteen consecutives days. Participants will be asked to reflect on things that occurred earlier that day, while following guides to help them reflect on these events. The second phase of the study will also consist of completing three follow-up online questionnaires (2 weeks, 1 month, and 3 months after completing the writing program). Enrollment in phase 2 of the study requires the completion of the online questionnaire for phase 1. If participants are interested in enrolling in phase 2, they will have the opportunity to provide us with their email address to commence phase 2. This study has received ethical approval by the ethics board at the University of Ottawa.
Duration: The first phase of the study will take approximately 30-45 minutes to complete. For the second phase of the study, each writing entry will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete with the exception of the first session, which will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. Each follow-up survey will take approximately 30-40 minutes to complete.
Benefits: The opportunity to engage in self-reflection and learn techniques that could help process and cope with challenges caused by Covid-19.
Compensation: The opportunity to win one of four 50$ money orders. Each writing session completed will correspond to the number of chances you will have to win one of four money prizes in a draw.
Contact: If participants have any questions about our research, they are encouraged to contact the research assistant (Kheana Barbeau, kbarb006@uottawa.ca).

YES Canada is seeking host families in the Renfrew County area to host international high school students from France and Italy for a 2 or 3 month program beginning in April 2021. Becoming a host family is a great way to experience another culture at home and to have a truly enriching experience.
International students plan their study abroad program months in advance and pursue the experience to learn about our culture and language and to build lifelong relationships with their host family and peers while attending high school. Students have been accepted to study at a local high school and continue to be committed to experience their study abroad opportunity and are aware that their program will take place amid a different environment in light of Covid-19.
We have adapted our programming to adjust to the new environment for students and host families presented by Covid-19. Guidance will be provided to students and host families throughout the process both prior to arrival and throughout the program and our team are available to answer questions and provide information. Students are also required to comply with all Government of Canada and Public Health requirements during Covid-19 including a 14-day quarantine upon arrival and testing both prior to departure and upon arrival in Canada.
We believe that purposeful travel is an important part of what connects and unites us, and the exchange program can continue to build a universal understanding and connection in these unique times. We know that the host family experience is key to providing an enriching cultural and language experience, and provides for a comforting home away from home to students embarking on this journey and builds lifelong bonds.
Why Host?
As a host family, you can contribute to this experience for the student and also have your own rewarding experience. Not only do you and your family get to learn about a different culture, you also get to share yours! We ask that host families provide 3 meals a day, a safe nurturing environment and welcome the student into your family’s daily lifestyle. Host families are compensated with a monthly stipend for doing so. If you are interested in sharing in this experience and hosting an international high school student or would like to learn more about our homestay program and how we are responding to the impacts of Covid-19, please contact YES Canada at the email address or phone number below:

We are looking for people born between 1946-1965 to take part in a study of leisure, work, and life transitions. While many baby boomers have begun to retire, others are unable to retire or are choosing not to retire for a variety of reasons. If this sounds like you, we want to learn from you. As a participant in this study, you will be asked to participate in an online blog with others in your generation by sharing your experiences and perceptions of leisure, work, and your decision not to retire. Your participation would involve 4 sessions per year for three years, each of which is approximately two weeks. You will be asked to log on to the blog about 5 times in each session. You can create new posts and/or comment on the posts of others. If you volunteer to participate, you will be contacted by a researcher to help you set up an account and get comfortable navigating the blog. In appreciation for your time, you will receive a $50.00 gift card annually. In the spring and fall things get pretty wet around the Kingston Humane society, which borders so wetlands along Little Cat Creek. When the yard is flooded it limits the space available for walking the dogs. One load of dirt would really help fill two of the low spots. Anyone in construction and care to donate?
If you are doing some landscaping and have a few buckets of clean fill/topsoil to donate please let me know and I’ll pick it up. Or consider buying a couple bags from your local garden centre and coming out to see the animals.
