I have many snails in almost all my tanks, trumpet snails and tadpole/pond snails. I personally enjoy them alot in each tank, the population stays about the same in my tanks. They eat dead fish, dead plants, algea and uneaten fish food, i havent had issues with them eating live plants and my tanks are well planted and havent suffered from them. Some people consider the tadpole snails the best algae eaters compared to many fish advertised for algae eating. I'm sure bigger fish would snack on them, my fish snack on the babies and eggs, my biggest population is in my shrimp tank (I do have pygmy corys in that tank that snack on the eggs)
