Rainbow Schools in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin will host in-person Kindergarten Information Nights for students starting school this fall. All parents/guardians and their children are welcome.
Information Nights will take place from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 for the English Program and Thursday, January 12, 2023 for French Immersion. Schools offering English and French Immersion will host one Information Night on Thursday, January 12, 2023.
If your child is starting school for the very first time, please complete the Elementary Registration Form on the board website.
Completed forms can be emailed directly to schools or sent to info@rainbowschools.ca.
For enrolment in Kindergarten, your child must be four years of age by the end of the calendar year.
Registration is not complete until school staff receive your child's identification documents, including birth certificate or birth registry/baptismal certificate, proof of residency, Ontario Health Card and an immunization record.
Parents/guardians can enroll their children in the English Program or the French Immersion Program.
The English Program is exclusively in English and includes a Core French component, which begins in Grade 4. Students learn French through songs, games, drama and interactive activities for a specified period of time daily.
French Immersion immerses children in the French language, including cultural experiences, when they begin school. English language instruction is introduced in Grade 3 and gradually builds to a balance of French and English instruction by Grade 5. This ensures that students gain effective bilingual skills. This program is designed for English speaking parents/guardians so they may support their children to become bilingual.
Visit the board's website for a list of schools and programs offered or contact your area Rainbow School.

Grade 8 students and their parents/guardians are invited to in-person Information Nights at Rainbow secondary schools in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin Island.
All students are welcome to participate, regardless of which elementary school students currently attend. Grade 6 students are welcome in secondary schools that offer Grades 7 and 8.
To ensure a smooth transition, Rainbow District School Board has prepared a guide for students and parents/guardians that explores the changes, choices and challenges students face while entering high school.
The guide contains information about course codes, levels of study, timetables and tips. The guide can be accessed on the board website.
Rainbow District School Board’s secondary schools offer exceptional opportunities in arts, athletics and academics, in English and French Immersion, in all program pathways – independent living, work, apprenticeship, college and university.
The Board also has four specialized programs - the Arts Education Program, the Science Technology Education Program (STEP), the Innovative Integrated Technology Program (InIT) and the International Baccalaureate Program (IB). Busing to these programs is offered to students within Greater Sudbury.
Rainbow secondary schools offer Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs in a variety of subject areas. SHSMs are specialized, Ministry of Education approved programs that allow students to focus their learning on a specific economic sector while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). SHSMs assist students in their transition from secondary school to apprenticeship training, college, university or the workplace.
Rainbow District School Board offers Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs in 13 sectors: Agriculture, Arts and Culture, Business, Construction, Energy, Environment, Health and Wellness, Hospitality and Tourism, Information and Communications Technology, Manufacturing, Mining, Sports and Transportation. Each program is a bundle of 8 to 10 courses in a selected field. Students learn on the job and can earn valuable industry certifications.
These programs enable students to gain sector specific skills and knowledge in engaging, career-related learning environments, and prepare in a focused way for graduation and post-secondary education, training or employment.

This event is for experienced line dancers, with at least 1 year experience. Would you like to “Come Dance With Us?” As “Another Year Bites the Dust” we start planning for 2023 and select all the line dance events we would like to attend. “Tell the World” that you are attending Nickel City Line Dance Classic (NCLDC) – Let’s Dance Again! “Where Oh Where” is that located? Sudbury, Ontario, Canada of course! This will be our 11th year hosting this workshop (can’t call it “annual” anymore due to COVID) and Northern Ontario’s Only Line Dance Event charged with excitement! We can’t compete with the larger events, but we have fun just the same! After COVID, we need to meet and dance together again, and if you have never joined us in the past, then this will be the year to do it - you won’t be disappointed!
Our guest instructor will be Zandra McCallum from Burlington, ON, and of course our local instructors – “Pete” Vincent-Schroeder, Marthe Thibeault, Colette Proulx and Carol Larocque. Your playlist for the evening dance is decided by you, the dancers! Please ensure that you submit your requests, as the playlist will only be as good as the requests received.
Same venue as in the past – Polish Combatant Hall, with very nice hardwood flooring, and a stage so you can see the instructors’ feet!
Instruction will happen from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. with an hour taken for lunch (included in your registration cost). Supper hour break (on your own) will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Doors will re-open at 7:15 p.m. and it will be up to you to be ready to “Dance Without a Partner”!!!
Our charity of choice will be the Blue Door Soup Kitchen, which relies solely on donations, as they do not receive funding of any kind. Door prizes are given out at lunch time. 50/50 draw will take place at 4:10 p.m. Cost: Early Bird - $55, after July 1/23 - $65.
Come join us – we’ll save a place for you on the dancefloor! There are no strangers here – only friends we haven’t met yet!
For more information or flyer and registration forms, visit Dancin’ Feet in Motion – www.dancinfeetinmotion.ca – NCLDC 2023 tab. Also listed in that same tab are recommended hotels and restaurants for your dining pleasure, and directions from your hotel to the hall.
