Profile:
My name is Max Salman, I am First Officer at Bearskin Airlines and I am also an Industry Canada (ISED) Radio Examiner. Prior to my aviation career, I was a remote sensing airborne geophysicist and climate scientist. I also have a very extensive and diverse background in university-level teaching, workshop facilitation, and one-on-one mentorship.
I got my Honours Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Waterloo in Earth Science, Geology Specialization, and concurrently got my Commercial Pilot License. I worked internationally as an airborne geophysicist, managed high profile exploration and environmental projects, working with overseas governments, large mining companies, and federal authorities. I returned to school in 2016 after 5 years of industry work and travel, and have completed two Master’s Degrees. My first Master’s Degree is in Science, focusing on Drone-based Geophysicist for Agricultural Soil Mapping, and my second Master’s Degree is in Engineering (Applied Science), exploring electromagnetic methods in geophysics to map permafrost thaw in the Arctic. I commenced a PhD in satellite-based remote sensing geophysics, and halfway decided to pursue my vocation in aviation. I fly for Bearskin Airlines and I also assist in curricular development and tutoring at Canadian Flight Trainers.
During my tenure as a graduate student and university instructor, I sat on various university-level committees, and was a member of the University of Waterloo Senate and Board of Governors. During my 5-year tenure in governance, I accomplished many projects that are still being used today to enhance the students' quality of life.
