Sólheimar, Iceland‘s first and only eco-village, is located in southwest Iceland, 80 kilometres (50 miles) east of Reykjavík. The heart of the Sólheimar ideology is to give all individuals a fair chance and to maximize their potential. By focusing on individuals' abilities instead of their limitations, Sólheimar aims to create the space for each resident to take every opportunity that arises for each person to grow and develop. Versatility is the strength of Sólheimar so people with special needs that reside here will always be the center of the community. This works through the idea of reverse integration: those without special needs adapt to the abilities of those who do, they can work together to make their community an equal and sustainable one. The foundation of the ideology of Sólheimar derives from the visions and lifework of Sesselja herself.
Sólheimar is a pioneer in practicing organic farming. In Sólheimar, there is an organically certified greenhouse, forestry, and arboretum. Other environmentally-friendly projects in Sólheimar include geothermal energy and recycling.

We have 7 weeks left in our season and 2 races. We're looking for a couple more people for both our teams - Snappin' Dragons (womens) and Paddlers of the Fifth Moon (mixed) to help cover some people that are away and hopefully get a solid intro to dragon boat for next season! :)
Cost is $150 and includes 14 practices and 2 race - Victoria (Aug 12-13) and Vancouver Island (Aug26-27). Our crews train at the Fairway Gorge Paddling Club Tues and Thurs. Our womens crew is 530-7 and our mixed crew is 7-830pm.
Both teams have a wide age range and offer a very inclusive and supportive environment to experience dragon boat.
Absolutely no experience is needed and there are paddles and PFDs you can use. You just need to be fit, strong, committed, reliable and not prone to drama!
We train both sides with a strong focus on technique to avoid injury and create stronger paddlers. Our coach has over 20 years experience and is certified as a competitive coach. She is also currently the head coach of the Canadian National Para Dragon Boat Team and is partly responsible for the need for more paddlers as she'll be at the Worlds in Thailand during Victoria! :)
Side note - we are also hoping to start a local, competitively-minded para crew next season. We'll be looking for people with sensory, physical, neurological, psychological and developmental conditions as well as supporters to help build the team, let me know if you're interested!
Anyway, back to this season! We race Nanaimo Jul 8-9 but starting Jul 11 we'll be revisiting technique so it's an awesome time to come check it out for free! No pressure to join at all!
If interested or if you have questions, get in touch! :)

It is considered a highly preserved valley due to its nature and the traditional way of living of the local people. The project was established by members of the local community with the aim to raise environmental awareness. The project is based in Ouad Kanar village in the north of Morocco, close to Chefchaouane and Tetouan. It is situated 90 km from Chefchaouane city, in an area that is famed for its cultural diversity.
The main work in this project will be in the forestry, called Ölur, and also in the greenhouses, which are called Sunna. Volunteers will work in the greenhouses, planting and harvesting vegetables, weed control and sometimes gardening. The work may also include painting or fixing things around the property. During the winter, volunteers will help remove the snow and keep the walkways clear.
