Next to Laos you have Vietnam and Thailand. Great tourist destinations.

Contract is for minimum one year. If for some reason you are unable to complete the full year, you will have to pay back ticket and visa expenses ($4000cad). If you want to carry on beyond the minimum one year, yes that option is there.
