IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE 2023
Since first stepping in front of MuchMusic’s national cameras in 1992, Bill Welychka has become one of Canada’s most enduring, recognizable, and respected television personalities. He is MuchMusic and MuchMoreMusic’s longest-running VJ, with many exclusives and awards.Bill Welychka has over 5,000 interviews under his belt - including film and TV stars, royalty, politicians, athletes, and innumerable music legends.
Bill Welychka has been hearing for decades “You should write a book!” Well, that book is ready to go available NOW. ANY fan of music will be entertained by his stories of bonding with many of the industry’s biggest stars.
Now available! - Video Book Trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5Oe9A-mzTQ
His debut memoir, “Bill Welychka: A Happy Has-Been. Exciting Times and Lessons Learned by One of Canada's Foremost Entertainment Journalists” is available NOW, and will dive into the many tales of spending time with Madonna (at her house), Mick Jagger, Oasis, AC/DC, Johnny Cash, members of The Beatles, Janet Jackson, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Garth Brooks, Prince, and dozens of other music legends. Bill writes about his world travels from spending time with the Maasai warriors on the Serengeti to covering the World Music Awards in Monte Carlo, Monaco six years in a row. Despite a career that had him mobbed at concerts and meeting every single idol he had, Bill opens up about his battles with depression.
Also, this celebrated media icon shares the important life lessons he has learned during his blessed life. Bill Welychka: “A Happy Has-Been. Exciting Times and Lessons Learned by One of Canada's Foremost Entertainment Journalists” is Now available through Friesen Press, Amazon, Kindle, KOBO, Nook, Barnes and Noble, Google Play, and Apple Books.
Stay tuned for future 2023 announced Book Signing Events in Welland, Toronto, Kingston, Ottawa, Hamilton, Barrie, Peterborough, and Edmonton, AB.
Bill has lots to celebrate! 2023 marks the 35th year of his dedication and insight to both sides of the camera. As well, 90s retro music is back in a big way and the timing of Bill’s book is perfect…as there is a new Crave Original Documentary about MuchMusic entitled, “299 Queen Street West,” slated for release in September 2023. Bill was interviewed extensively for the documentary and will make a few guest appearances along their documentary Canada-wide tour 2023, including Sept 22, 2023, Roy Thompson Hall documentary tour kick-off in Toronto. Visit https://www.299queenstreetwest.com
Also, there is a film currently in production loosely based on Bill’s life, more details coming soon.
“An extremely intimate, genuine, and unshakeably honest journey into pop culture fame and the unstoppable path to self-realization, truth, and happiness.” - Kris Abbott / Musician (Kris+Dee, The Pursuit of Happiness).
“If you grew up in the heyday of the nation’s music station, you understand the impact the VJs had on your life. Bill Welychka was one of the greats. In his book, we’re blessed with inside access to the life and times of Bill, who it turns out is much more than a beloved VJ. He’s a beloved human being.” - Toronto Mike'd Podcast
Bill’s book proudly features a Foreword by The Tragically Hip’s Paul Langlois. The Hip remains one of Canada’s biggest bands ever and they will be showcased in a worldwide doc series scheduled in 2024. PLUS, partial proceeds from the book are being donated to the White Ribbon Campaign and various women’s shelters across Canada.

7th Annual Hamilton Plus Size Clothing Buy / Sell / Swap
Saturday, July 8, 2023
12PM-3PM
Calvin Christian School
547 West 5th Street,
Hamilton, ON
L9C 3P7
**FREE ADMISSION & DOOR PRIZE DRAW**1 Free draw ticket will be handed out at door (1 per person); get additional tickets by liking and sharing this post, and our page! (You must show us proof at the door to get your additional tickets for the draw.)
Winner will be drawn at 3PM, winner must be present at time of draw.Hi everyone! We hope you are ready to clear out your closets, refresh your wardrobe, and have a great time!
What is a Plus Size Clothing Sale?
It's a multi-vendor indoor consignment sale in which you sell your clothes, shoes and accessories and have the ability to shop from other plus size sellers! "Plus size" at this event is anything size 14+ and up.How much is admission?
Admission to the sale is FREE!When is the event?
This is a one-day event on Saturday, July 8, 2023 from 12PM-3PM.Where is it?
This year is gonna be BIG!
We have rented out the DOUBLE GYM at The Calvin Christian School
(547 West 5th Street, Hamilton, ON, L9C 3P7).
More space = More vendors! We are goin' all out this year!
This venue is absolutely lovely, has AC, a big parking lot, beautiful outdoor section, wheelchair accessible, nearby highway access, restaurants, banks, and is reachable via public transit. Can I try on the clothes?
YES! This venue has built-in change rooms, hooks, as well as large mirrors! What kind of racks do you have?
We use Heavy Duty Racks with a 48" hang rail that expands with two 12" pull-out rods. It has an adjustable height for longer garments. These are professional grade sturdy racks like you would see at a clothing store. It can hold 150 lbs., and approx. 20-50 items (depending on the thickness of the item / hangers). Because we are renting some racks this year, not all racks will be identical, but they will be able to hold a substantial amount of clothing. How can I sell my items?
You can purchase a rack rental for $65.
Racks must be pre-paid in advance via emt IN FULL. (This is Non-refundable).
If you are wanting to sell, YOU MUST CONTACT US TO RESERVE YOUR RACK FIRST; NO EXCEPTIONS.
If there is overflow, we can put you on a waiting list, but we need to know you are coming first.
**no same-day racks will be available; all racks must be purchased in advance**Can I share a rack?
**NEW** - Since we are increasing the number of racks this year, we are limiting racks to one per person. From an administrative standpoint, having multiple people to one rack was confusing, and payouts at the end of the event were taking longer than expected. Additionally, we had participants pack 4-5 people per rack, with lots of different tag variations, which resulted in increased wait times for payouts at the end of the swap. If you are still wanting to share a rack with someone, you can work it out privately on how do to that, but the public facing tags still need to be assigned to only one person.
We want to make this year run as smoothly as possible for the buyers, sellers, and our amazing volunteers; we appreciate your understanding. How do I pay for my rack?
We are a well respected and established event; that being said, you must pay via EMT, in full, in advance. We will not accept payment same-day at the venue, as many people have no-showed over the last 7 years. Please email Lydia at: lid5@hotmail.com or post your rack request on the FB group/page for payment instructions. (Rack rental fee is is Non-refundable; please keep this in mind before sending payment.)Can I sell things other than Clothes, shoes and accessories at your event?
If you are coming to our swap to sell something other than Clothes, shoes and accessories (but it falls within the "Plus size" realm), you can purchase a full 6FT promo table rental for $80. Promo tables will be located in their own section, and you will be responsible for all monetary transactions at your table. Promo tables must be pre-paid via emt IN FULL. (This is Non-refundable). If you are wanting to promote, YOU MUST CONTACT US TO RESERVE YOUR TABLE FIRST; NO EXCEPTIONS. If there is overflow, we can put you on a waiting list, but we need to know you are coming first.
**no same-day tables will be available; all tables must be purchased in advance**How can I swap my items?
We will have a free "swap" table (clearly labelled) near the front, where you can take and leave items. What happens day of the sale?
-On the day of the sale, Sellers arrive at 11am. You bring all of your clothing on marked hangers, pre-tagged, with prices. The tag should have the size + your price on one side, and your name / initials on the other side. Tags can be purchased at Dollarama, Staples, or you can make your own.
(We recommend this style from Staples. Search for: "Staples Retail Marking / Pricing Tags with String, 2-3/4" x1-11/16", White, 50 Pack" on the Staples website and you should see them).
TAGS MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE CLOTHING / ITEM, NOT THE HANGER PLEASE.
-The hung clothing goes on your rack.
-All shoes and accessories (purses, scarves, hats, etc.) should also be tagged, and will go in a communal section.
-Buyers / Traders will be allowed admission at 12PM.
-Once the buyer has decided on what they want to purchase, they go to the cash-out desk. The people running the desk will take the tags off the items, give the customer a total, accept payment, and give them the items. (The tags then go into individual containers, one per Seller).
-At the end of the sale, the Seller comes to the cash-out desk; their tags are totaled up, and they are paid out. Cash sales will be paid out at the event, credit/debit will be paid out within 3 days via EMT.
This means that the seller does not need to stand beside their rack the entire time, and can enjoy shopping or socializing with all the other sellers and buyers.Buyers: No Buyers will be admitted before 12PM.
NOTE FOR BUYERS:
Caveat emptor (Latin term for "Buyer Beware"). Please inspect all your items before purchasing. If there are any issues, please speak to the seller directly at the swap. While we can try to put you in contact with the seller post-swap, it's better if you can resolve any issues same-day.
The main purpose of this event is to foster a positive plus size community in Hamilton. Is this a Cash Only sale?
We do have a square reader this year (but we will have to charge $3 per transaction to cover fees). To save yourself money, please bring cash.
If you need access to an ATM, there are many banks on Upper James (parallel to West 5th), such as TD, RBC, CIBC and Momentum Credit Union.Do I have to be selling items to attend?
No, everyone is free to come and shop. Invite your friends, and make a fun day of it!Are there any restaurants nearby?
Yes - There are many restaurants on Upper James (parallel to West 5th), such as Charlie Chopsticks, Tim Hortons, Subway, Pizza Pizza, Wendy's, A&W, Quiznos, Pizza Hut, and many more.Is it accessible by bus?
