My students can start younger as our first repertoire is done by ear before moving into music-reading. Welcome to Harmony House Piano Studio, a welcoming home studio in West Galt (near Blair Road School) where students develop confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love of music.
After years of teaching in Preston, I am excited to welcome students into my newly renovated studio space — a dedicated music room designed for focused, enjoyable learning on an acoustic upright piano. The space won’t be ready until the fall, but I am opening up now for registration.
Whether your child is beginning their musical journey, learning for enjoyment, or preparing for Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) practical and theory examinations, lessons are tailored to their individual needs, goals, and learning style.

About Your Teacher
I am an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) with a Master of Education (MEd) and am currently a PhD candidate. I have over 20 years of piano teaching experience, 10 years of classroom teaching experience, and hold RCM Grade 9 Piano and Royal Conservatory Theory qualifications.
My teaching style is positive, structured, and engaging. I believe students learn best when they feel supported, challenged, and excited to come to lessons each week. My goal is not only to teach students how to play piano, but to help them become confident, independent musicians who develop skills that last a lifetime.
The house represents warmth, belonging, and connection, a place where students feel comfortable taking risks, making mistakes, and discovering their musical voice.
The evergreen trees represent strong foundations, resilience, and growth. Like a tree that grows steadily over time, musicians develop through patience, practice, and dedication. Each lesson helps students build skills, confidence, and independence that continue to grow throughout their musical journey.
Studio Details
Lessons take place in my dedicated, newly renovated piano studio on an acoustic upright piano.
Families are welcome to:
- Relax in a comfortable indoor/outdoor waiting area during lessons
- Drop off and use the time for errands
- Park in my large private driveway or along my quiet dead-end street
Please note: I currently have one friendly kitten and may be welcoming another soon. The kittens are kept out of the piano studio during lessons but may occasionally be present in other areas of my home. Families with significant cat allergies should consider whether this environment is the right fit.

Studio Policies
Each lesson time is reserved exclusively for your child each week.
Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice if your child will miss a lesson.
Lessons cancelled with appropriate notice may be rescheduled during an available make-up time.
Same-day cancellations and missed lessons without notice are not eligible for make-up lessons or refunds.
If I need to cancel a lesson, families will receive either a make-up lesson or a refund.
These policies help ensure fairness for all families and allow the studio schedule to run smoothly while providing every student with a consistent weekly lesson time.
To support your child’s success, students should have regular access to a piano or full-size (88-key) keyboard at home and follow a consistent practice routine. I am happy to provide guidance based on your child’s age, level, and goals.
Steady progress comes from consistent practice between lessons. Students should arrive each week prepared to perform the pieces and exercises assigned at their previous lesson, demonstrating the growth and confidence that come from regular practice.

I am trained in classical piano, and theory, I hold a Diploma in Piano Performance London UK College of Music.
I am intimately familiar with the RCM curriculum and system, feel most at home working with young children to early teens, and have been teaching at both privately and with institutions.
My performing background has been predominantly classical repertoire, but I am happy to keep my lesson structure adaptable to whatever my students or students’ parents are looking for.
As a teacher, I am currently affiliated with the KSM musical network and school, which spans all of Ontario.

I love to help others explore the piano as an outlet for their expression and creativity! My piano students learn foundational techniques and musical building blocks that can be used for exploring any genre or style of music. I always encourage having the freedom to make mistakes while working on anything, and treating everything as a learning experience.
Students can bring any musical content to a lesson (songs, classical pieces, video game or movie soundtracks, jazz standards, etc.).
Students can also share any musical aspirations (to play in a band, compose music, do music production, improve skills with improvisation, learn all about chords and music theory, etc.) - and together we can look at practical steps and techniques for working towards those goals.
Although piano is the primary instrument I teach, I also help students to improve their improvisation skills on whatever their primary instrument may be. Outside of piano-focused lessons, I've worked mostly with singers and guitarists - composing loops using a loop pedal, improvising melodies, and doing a bit of piano to help understand the theory involved in chords & keys. I also offer assistance with effects pedals for guitar, keyboard, or voice.
Interested in music production? I also help students who are composing music using a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). We can work on things like MIDI loops and software instruments, creating drum beats, using MIDI controllers, and basic audio editing techniques for mixing tracks. My personal experience is primarily with Logic and Ableton Live, so I can offer some amount of technical assistance with these applications. Students are also welcome to bring in projects using other DAWs, and we can work on the creative elements of the music-making.
I believe that having a sense of play and enjoyment is most important for anyone's musical journey. I offer lessons for all levels of piano, composition, improvisation, looping, music production, music theory, and any mixture of the above.

Evan studied piano and composition / improvisation at Wilfrid Laurier University, where he also played keyboard and sang in various bands, and played piano and melodica as part of Improvisation Concerts Ensemble (ICE). Since graduating, he has performed solo and as a part of various duets - at cafes, restaurants, bars, churches, theatres and art galleries. He has also attended and hosted sound meditation events, where the focus is on listening together and creating sounds spontaneously with instruments & our voices. From 2018 onwards, he has focused mainly on his ambient recording project Cedarwood Sounds. These soundscapes are made from loops, drones, spontaneous melodies, and other sound sources such as field recordings.

Since moving to Calgary, I have been teaching violin and music theory full time, preparing students for examinations and helping them achieve success at every level!

THE DRUMS, possibly the fastest growing instrument in the world. It is also one of the most fun instruments to play. Like every instrument, consistency and commitment are the quintessential to success. There is no short cut.
Unfortunately, the drum set is the most misunderstood instrument. It is NOT an instrument that you 'bash on'. Just like the next percussion instrument - the piano, you learn proper 'touch' on the instrument, proper technique so as not to cause injury, sound contrast, dynamic contrast, and consistent tempo.
Unlike most instruments, the drum set is a collection of 5 instruments put together as one instrument. It's all about muscle memory. Practising requires 1/2 hour a day, 4 or 5 days a week.
Each lesson is tailored to the individual's goals. Using a program that mutes the drum part, I show students how to play for the music, rather than just aimlessly learning drum patterns. In other words, I help students of the drum set become musicians. Every pattern learned has to make sense as to why we learn that pattern. Playing drums is only as good as supporting the music.
My rate is $40.00 per hour. I offer 1 hour or 90 minute lessons weekly, or bi-weekly. I am available, seven days a week from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
I accept adults, seniors, and students from Grade 7 to 12 who need help with their music in their jazz school band, or music in general that they are struggling with. Kids younger than 10 years old, you will be vetted by myself to see if we are a good fit for each other.

3 Days Summer Piano Camp.
Certified and experienced piano teacher provides piano camp for kids and teens in my studio in Prestwick SE. For 3 days students will have daily piano lessons, fun group activities and music games, learn their favorite songs. Are you an aspiring guitarist seeking help with the basics? Do you wish you could play around the campfire or join the open jam session at the pub? Are you an intermediate player hoping to round out your skills? Are you an experienced player seeking advice on theory, composition and the finer points of playing, or on how to read & interpret guitar tab properly? Or are you hoping to learn your favorite riffs and solos note-for-note? Are you a parent looking for a friendly, patient guitar teacher that won't flake out on your kids, AND knows what he's doing?
If you answered yes to any of those questions, I am here to help. I have been helping students of all ages and backgrounds for over 15 years. Regardless if you are just learning your first chord, or if you are mastering the hardest part of the solo from Stairway to Heaven, I've taught it all to hundreds of satisfied students.
Total beginners are totally welcome. My youngest student just turned 6, and my oldest just turned 73.
I can teach any style or skill level, acoustic or electric. My specialty is in rock, pop, blues, funk and alternative styles, but almost any genre is teachable. I also specialize in music theory, and I can show you how to master the fretboard and play in any key with ease. I can also teach advanced reading techniques for tablature that will help you make short work of intimidating tabs.
I've played in countless bands over the decades, including several original projects for which I was the principal music-writer, and several cover bands, including a 90's-rock cover band, and tribute bands for both Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones. I can help you bring your playing up to the level where you can go to open jams, join a band, or start your own.
The lessons can take place at my home studio, or at your home (travel cost included), or we can do online lessons using Zoom or Facetime or Whatsapp. I am located in the deep southwest, in Bridlewood.
You can book a regular weekly lesson, or you can book a-la-carte / drop-in. Lessons can be 30 min, 45 min or 1 hour. All ages and skill levels are welcome. E-transfer, PayPal and all major credit cards and cash all accepted! References and police background check available on request.
