Job Description:Job Description #YTC *Certified Cook* We are looking for a full-time Certified Cook for one of our clients in Almonte, ON. The Cook reports directly to the Nutritional Care Manager and is responsible to perform all assigned responsibilities economically, efficiently and in full compliance with all legislated and OMNI standards, policies and procedures, which are designed to ensure that each resident receives support, care and services in keeping with their needs and preferences….always with a focus on excellence in customer service and resident care. The Cook is responsible to work collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team; supporting and demonstrating the OMNIway Mission, Vision and Values and the principles of Respect Always; making every effort to ensure that the provisions of the Resident Bill of Rights are practiced without exception. The Cook shall serve as a leader to their colleagues and a mentor to newly hired employees, of the nutritional care department, leading by example to inspire and motivate every individual to recognize the value they bring to the lives of residents and their colleagues as an Everyday Hero. Responsibilities:Assist the Nutritional Care Manager to ensure that the requirements of the Long Term Care Homes Act and Regulations, Accreditation Standards and all OMNI Health Care standards, policies and procedures are met.Liaise with officials of the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Long Term Care, Accreditation Canada, Public Health and other consultative and regulatory bodies regarding the organization and operation of the nutritional care department and the nutritional care of the residents of the home.Assist with the admission, discharge and transfer programs to ensure continuity of resident care. This includes assisting with the admission interview to determine the nutritional needs and preferences of the resident.Prepare food and beverages in accordance with menu requirements, recipe and food production guidelines, diet and texture requirements and established OMNI policies and procedures.Prepare and serve meals and nourishments as per established menus and schedules.Ensure work area is kept clean and sanitary at all times.Follow appropriate safe food handling and infection control procedures at all times throughout the receiving, storing, thawing and preparation, cooking, holding and serving processes to prevent food borne illness.Maintain a current and valid ‘safe food handling’ certificate from an approved certification body at all times.Follow procedures to ensure foods are served at the appropriate temperature. Adhere to required temperature monitoring and recording policies without exception.Ensure each resident has the opportunity to express his/her meal preferences by offering them a visual choice of each meal option prior to service. Accommodate resident requests and/or food preferences.Ensure that appropriate direction is given for the serving of therapeutic and texture modified diets and interventions.Communicate and work cooperatively and supportively with all members of the multidisciplinary care team.Promote the rights and dignity of each resident as established by the Resident’s Bill of Rights.Assist with the orientation of Nutritional Care personnel as directed.Demonstrate a commitment to the value of continuing education with attendance of a 100% of all required education programs.Ensure the maintenance of a safe environment for residents, staff and visitors. Establish and enforce the expectation that hazardous conditions and actions are promptly reported and corrected. Apply the principles and standards of Safety First, using consistency in the application of policies and procedures which have been developed to provide a safe work environment for all staff.Participate in quality improvement and risk management programs as directed.Assist with receiving of supplies as directed. Ensure safe food and non-food storage. Ensure all items are accounted for before signing invoices.Represent support and enthusiasm for the OMNI core programs.Participate in committee meetings, seminars, in service and other educational programs as directed.Perform other duties as required. Requirements:Successful completion of an approved Chef’s Training program or Culinary Management program.Certificate of Qualification – Institutional Cook (A certificate of completion will be required).Knowledge of the nutritional care needs of the Long Term care resident.Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the basics of good sanitation and safe food handling techniques.Ability to read and write appropriately.Must be in good physical and mental health.Must demonstrate the skills to participate as a member multidisciplinary team in the delivery of quality services to the residents.Must be sensitive and empathetic to the needs of others.Must demonstrate initiative and the ability to be creative and resourceful.Must be flexible and adaptive to change.Constant standing and walking during work periods.Twisting, turning, bending, climbing, reaching, and lifting required.Finger and hand dexterity.Visual and hearing acuity Location: Almonte, ON Salary: $21/hr (depending on experience) Shift: Morning Shift Monday- Friday Timings: 9 am to 5 pmAlternate Weekends Availability Job Type: Full-time, Permanent Job ID: 40300635
