Job Title: Farm Hand / Machinery Operator (Hay Production)
Location: Coaldale, Alberta
Job Summary
We are looking for a hardworking, dedicated Farm Hand to join our team for the upcoming hay season. You will play a vital role in our production cycle, from preparing the fields to final harvest and storage. This is a physically demanding role that requires a focus on quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities
• Field Operations: Operate and maintain farm machinery for cutting, raking, and baling hay.
• Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on tractors, balers, and other implements to ensure optimal performance.
• Harvest Support: Assist with the loading, transport, and stacking of hay bales in storage facilities.
• General Farm Maintenance: Maintain farm grounds and yard sites, including fencing repairs, weed control, lawn maintenance, and irrigation management.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to all farm safety protocols and maintain a clean, hazard-free workspace.
Qualifications & Skills
• Experience: Previous experience in hay production or operating heavy farm machinery is preferred.
• Physical Fitness: Ability to perform strenuous manual labor, lift heavy objects (50+ lbs), and work long hours outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Technical Aptitude: Basic mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot equipment issues.
• Reliability: Strong work ethic, punctuality, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• License: Valid driver’s license (Class 5 or equivalent) and reliable transportation. Class 1 license would be very helpful.
Work Schedule & Compensation
• Type: Full time seasonal (April to October) with an opportunity to continue through the winter.
• Hours: Standard hours would average 30-50 hours per week, with expected overtime during peak harvest windows. No Sunday work.
• Pay: Compensation will depend on experience.
