Do you have a job or hobby that requires building computers or programming/coding? Do you have a love of technology and some skills that could be passed along? Would you like to share this passion with a high school student?
We currently have a young man who would love to learn about computer hardware – the components, how to build or fix one, and also interested in programming and coding. He would love to connect with someone who has experience, whether professionally or personally, in these areas.
Student Links is for students aged 14-21 who have a disability. We match these students with a mentor in their community with whom they share common interests. Students are provided with an opportunity to explore a role based on their passions and interests, practice hard and soft skills and network. This helps them form decisions about the choices available to them upon graduation.
The role of a mentor is a highly rewarding one and can take many forms. I seek people who are passionate about their work, and those who want to share their expertise with someone who might not otherwise be exposed to such experiences. There is no requirement in terms of time commitments. A mentorship is formed with the help of the program coordinator and can take many forms depending on the availability of the mentor and student.
Please note - normally mentor-student matches are done in-person, however due to the current Covid situation, we are connecting students and mentors virtually. This might involve preparing pre-recorded instructional videos for the student, meeting over Zoom to share information and answer questions, or setting up a google classroom for example.
If this sounds like something you would enjoy contact Sarah Ellis-Pierron at sellispierron@communitylivingontario.ca or 519-520-8268 for more information on this or any other mentorship opportunities. Check out our website at https://communitylivingontario.ca/en/student-links/

Hello North Bay. I'm looking to help somewhere in my community. With Covid-19 entering our world last year things have drastically changed how we do things. I'm not entirely sure who is in need of help or what I can bring to your table but I will certainly give 100%. There is one small hiccup, I work full time Mon - Fri 8-5. I am available outside these hours. I have no problem getting any clearances you require. I also have excellent references. I own a car so location is not an obstacle.
If you are in need of some extra help please contact me and I'll see what I can do.
Thank you

YES Canada is seeking host families in the Renfrew County area to host international high school students from France and Italy for a 2 or 3 month program beginning in April 2021. Becoming a host family is a great way to experience another culture at home and to have a truly enriching experience.
International students plan their study abroad program months in advance and pursue the experience to learn about our culture and language and to build lifelong relationships with their host family and peers while attending high school. Students have been accepted to study at a local high school and continue to be committed to experience their study abroad opportunity and are aware that their program will take place amid a different environment in light of Covid-19.
We have adapted our programming to adjust to the new environment for students and host families presented by Covid-19. Guidance will be provided to students and host families throughout the process both prior to arrival and throughout the program and our team are available to answer questions and provide information. Students are also required to comply with all Government of Canada and Public Health requirements during Covid-19 including a 14-day quarantine upon arrival and testing both prior to departure and upon arrival in Canada.
We believe that purposeful travel is an important part of what connects and unites us, and the exchange program can continue to build a universal understanding and connection in these unique times. We know that the host family experience is key to providing an enriching cultural and language experience, and provides for a comforting home away from home to students embarking on this journey and builds lifelong bonds.
Why Host? As a host family, you can contribute to this experience for the student and also have your own rewarding experience. Not only do you and your family get to learn about a different culture, you also get to share yours!
We ask that host families provide 3 meals a day, a safe nurturing environment and welcome the student into your family’s daily lifestyle. Host families are compensated with a monthly stipend for doing so. If you are interested in sharing in this experience and hosting an international high school student or would like to learn more about our homestay program and how we are responding to the impacts of Covid-19, please contact YES Canada at the email address or phone number below:
