Volunteering in the Rehabilitation and Health Clinic in Hveragerdi. This friendly little community sits on top of a highly active geothermal field which provides heat for hundreds of greenhouses where fruits, flowers and vegetables are produced throughout the year. Even bananas grow in these greenhouses! The name Hveragerði means "hot springs garden". Geothermal energy is Hveragerði’s lifeblood, and you probably won’t find such a natural wonder in the middle of a populated area anywhere else in the world. Nearby you will find an even more geothermally active site: Gufudalur, the lovely "Steam Valley" behind the town. This whole valley is full of hot springs, geysers, mud pots, fumaroles and steaming vents.
Main activities include but are not limited to: Agriculture (cultivating soil, planting, raising and harvesting crops), Horticulture (growing fruits, vegetables and plants), Renovation around the property. During winter, the work might include snowplowing.
The nature of the work depends largely on weather conditions, which can change quickly.
We will give special focus on global warming and workshops about climate change will take place in the late afternoon. Humanity must act in a more environmentally friendly way. The main goal of this project is to improve the environmental education and consciousness of the project participants. Within the project, we will learn about green energy, sustainable householding, waste treatment, nutrition, the effects of consumption and lots more. If we want to change something, develop solutions or inspire others, we must understand the issues and tasks first. Take part in this promising project and spring into action against climate change!Dates:

Bonjour,

In this project, volunteers will support a little zoo, located near Macas in Morona Santiago in the Amazon region. The zoo started in early 2006 as a "rescue center" for wild species to respond to the inadequate treatment of these animals who were hunted and sold to citizens as pets, were hold captive in confined spaces with inadequate diet, hygiene, etc. That was the reason to create the center to rescue mammals, reptiles, birds, etc. We started with the rescue of a tapir (Tapirus terrestris). In April of 2006 a 7-month old male jaguar (Panthera onca) was brought from San José de Morona. Other animals were brought to the Center by the Ministry of Environment or individuals. This led to the need of a larger area where to build dens for each animal and provide the right habitat. We need volunteers to ameliorate the difficult economic situation of the zoo due to the lack of involvement of local institutions and the government. If you want to help us feed the animals, care for them and learn about them, you are welcome to this project.
The activities carried out at the zoo are: Preparation of food for the animals; Washing and chopping fruit; Placing containers for animal feed; Cleaning dens; Weeding and maintaining the dens; Composting organic wastes; Fertilizing ornamental, medicinal and fruit plants that are part of the recreational area; Placing signs and maintaining the ecological trail; Guidance for visitors and tourists.
Duration of the project: The project is running all year round. Minimum commitment required is 4 weeks, up to 12 months.
Please, find the full description of this project at: http://cadip.org/volunteering-in-ecuador

-EXAMPLE DE PROJET-
- cabane à sucre
- jardin d'herbes médicinales et plantes indigènes
- verger / vignoble
- Augmentez votre autonomie alimentaire
