Members of the community are encouraged to come out and be part of our audience and enjoy an evening of musical entertainment for FREE!
OPEN STAGE Night at Barrie Public Library Painswick Branch Wednesday April 10th from 600pm - 830pm
Join the Barrie Folk Society, a not-for-profit organization that cares about the growth and nurturing of the folk/roots music movement in our community, as they share their passion for acoustic music. Listen to the sound of live music or bring your instrument and play your favourite tunes in an “OPEN STAGE” format.
Different from the event at the downtown branch, the format for this event will be an “OPEN STAGE” event for acoustic musicians. Each performer (solo or groups) will have the opportunity to take the stage to perform a three-song set (of no more than 15 minutes). This is intended to be an opportunity to get comfortable performing in front of others or to see how an audience responds to your original material.
The event will run on the second Wednesday of the month from 6-830 pm and sign up time will begin at 5:45 pm. There will be 10 guaranteed spots. At the conclusion of the 10 performances the host will apportion the remaining time available between those that have not yet performed and/or give others a chance for extra songs.

We are thrilled to share our press release with you with hope of your interview interest regarding Bill's Newmarket appearance and up close and personal book signing event at Chapter's at Yonge Centre located at 17440 Yonge Street in Newmarket on April 18, 2024 from 12 pm to 2 pm. Bill is available for both phone and Zoom interviews between 8 to 845am and once again after 3pm and on weekends.
2024 BOOK SIGNING TOUR - IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE
Bill Welychka of MuchMusic fame is coming to
Newmarket Ontario on April 18th, 2024, from 12pm to 2pm
at Chapter's inside the Yonge Centre at 17440 Yonge Street,
for an autograph session.
Also, Bill is accepting cash donations on behalf of Belinda’s Place Shelter (Salvation Army) Newmarket.Since first stepping in front of MuchMusic’s national cameras in 1992, Bill Welychka has become one of Canada’s most enduring, recognizable and respected television personalities. He is MuchMusic and MuchMoreMusic’s longest running VJ. Bill is renowned for his thoughtful interview style and his love and knowledge of a wide range of topics from pop-culture to politics, and his reputation has been rewarded by many exclusives and awards. Bill Welychka has been hearing for decades “You should write a book!” Well, that book is here and ready to be enjoyed by his large number of ardent followers. Any fan of music (country, pop, rock, rap, metal etc.) will be entertained by his stories of hanging out with many of the industry’s biggest stars.
“A Happy Has-Been (Exciting Times and Lessons Learned by One of Canada's Foremost Entertainment Journalists)” dives into the many tales of spending time with Madonna (at her house), Mick Jagger, Oasis, AC/DC, Johnny Cash, members of The Beatles, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Garth Brooks, Prince and dozens of other music legends. Bill writes about his world travels from spending time with the Maasai warriors on the Serengeti to covering the World Music Awards in Monte Carlo, Monaco six years in a row. Despite a career that had him mobbed at concerts and meeting every single idol he had; Bill also opens up about his battles with depression. Also, this celebrated media icon shares the important life-lessons he has learned during his blessed life.
2023 marked the 35th year of his dedication and insight to both sides of the camera including 12 years as Kingston Global News Morning producer and 2024 brings his career full circle, with a return to music broadcasting as Corus Entertainment Kingston’s
96.3 BIG FM Announcer & 104.3 Fresh Radio Music Director.
Bill has over 5,000 interviews under his belt (and growing!) including film and TV stars, royalty, politicians, athletes & innumerable music legends. 90s retro music is back in a big way and the timing of Bill’s book is perfect…he has been in demand the past several years to talk about music and trends on numerous Podcasts, and there is a new documentary about MuchMusic that was successfully released in September with a sold-out Canada-wide tour. Bill was interviewed extensively for this doc and made a few appearances along the tour, which aired to CRAVE in December 2023. For more info you can visit http://www.299queenstreetwest.com
There is also a film currently in production loosely based on Bill’s life.
